Caltech (or really, Fleming house, though rumors are that Caltech funded them) sent 20-30 students to "reclaim" their cannon.

They tried to swoop in, looking all cool. MIT was on-top of it, met them as they arrived, and helped them get it back, while preparing an early morning barbecue for the hungry caltech students.

My mother is still quite surprised that I can remember in strong detail my first similar swimming lesson. I've described my memories in vivid detail, and she'll look bewildered and say "but you were only 5 months old!"

Perhaps your munchkin will remember the songs that she's singing. :)

I quite like it to, and always make it a point to have a pint when I'm in Pennsylvania. I'm sad that I can't get it up in Boston. I've asked for it t my local boutique beer distributer, and they get a fair number of requests for it, but it's not available in Massachusetts yet. Perhaps there is a business to be made in running Yuengling across the state line. Maybe I can trade my Gather Points for a fast car.....

One of the things that annoys me about Windows is that every time I decide that I'm going to do a task (say, "surf web") it will decide that there is something else I should be paying attention to (say, "there are unused icons on your desktop, would you like to remove them?" or "you need to update your software now." or "Mozilla is not your default browser, would you like to change this?") This seems to happen a large amount of the time, and it serves to shorten my attention span for tasks I'm trying to do, instead of allowing me to focus on the task I set out to do.

Now I'm a Mac advocate. :)

I don't read as much as I'd like to.

One strategy that I use is that I have a specific time set aside every week for me to sit and quietly read. I go to an eating establishment that I know and like, during a period of time that I know they're more quiet than normal. The staff knows me, knows what I like to eat and how I like it prepared, and since I'm a regular, they don't mind if I linger.
I get 60-90 minutes per week of time that I can sit and read and not be distracted by TV, computers, my phone, or whatever. In addition, I get a good meal, all the iced tea I can drink, and some quiet time. I'd love more time to do this, but it's a busy world. The time I get is well worth it though.

How much of an impact does dairy/cheese have on things? I'm a vegetarian, and dairy is a major source of protein for me. I otherwise do pretty well on your list, and don't drink soda, or eat fast foods, etc. I
mostly don't have a sweet tooth (unless I'm ill) and tend towards a low sugar diet. I completely avoid high fructose corn syrup as well as the artifical sweeteners. I also prefer black to green tea, but tend to drink them both, depending on the time of day. I suspect I'm a lower risk than most, but now you have me wondering about my dairy intake...

Hi Catharine,

I've got some experience in the publishing field myself. I've often heard
people predict that PoD will change everything. It hasn't. I don't think it will.

Yes, it's a way to get your in print. For some people, that's where the thrill is. Will it get a quality piece of work into the hands of the reader? My experience is that it's unlikely to do that.

Some of the things you lose with the PoD approach include: Review, editing, marketing, and promotion. These are all necessary for producing a quality book that people will be interested in reading.
Writing the words and putting them on paper is only part of the puzzle.
I've seen many excellent books fail to get a good reach because they
were inapproppriately aimed at an oversaturated market, poorly edited, poorly produced or never marketed or promoted.

For small vanity runs, a PoD service is a fine option If you're trying to get your words out coherently to a large audience, I think that PoD is not the way to go, and may only hinder the process.
