For many people the issue is not whether we should provide healthcare for everyone, but rather how and at whose expense. And what level of responsibility do people have to bear to look after themselves.

You are forgetting about some of the groups on the left such as the "eco terrorists" who have been known to blow up houses and other things in the name of saving the environment?

In addition, there are just as many groups on the left who are irrationally vocal as there are on the right. To say otherwise is to be blind. Both sides have some good people and ideas as well. But sometimes the more radical factions get the media coverage and attention and people label everyone as such.

People do have the right to belong to whichever party that they want. unfortunately, this "two party" system has changed the rules to make it nearly impossible for any ohter party to be equally heard and represented. That is why the same bad ideas keep cropping up in the same endless pointless arguments and the same boogeyman is used to scare or prod each segment of the population to act accordingly.

Remember, for every rightwing fanatic there is a leftwing fanatic who is equally scary. Neither party is really much better than the other. And the fanatics on both sides continue to sling mud rather than listen to the peole on both sides who may actually have valid ideas and opinions.

Sadly, what is missing here is the sad reality that a lot of the goverment agencies, while necessary, do not work efficiently or effectively. Just because you have govement programs in some areas, does not mean that you should create more government programs.

There are some select things that goverment can do better than the private sector and should do. But there are many, many more that things which the goverment does poorly. Mostly because of the bumbling beauracrats of all parties. To label one party to blame for an issue is to be blindly partisan. If you cannot see that people on all sides of the aisle are to blame for what we have now, then you are overlooking the influence of special interests on all sides. Neither party is innocent. Both have been corrupted. Until we can move away from a two party system, a lot of our issues will continue to fester without real solutions.
