October is the Domestic Violence & Breast Cancer Awareness Month
I have not figured out the project for Breast Cancer, but I do know it will be about educating people about how breast cancer is deadly yes but many do not know that it is more deadly in the African American Race. And those who are from less developed areas or ethnic status do not get the screening they should. So if you have any ideas please share them.
Ok for the Domestic Violence I have a project of Awareness placemats:
They will be made of large sheets of paper with construction paper, markers, etc. See Five pictures, these are samples they still have to be coated. The colors are below along with what they represent:
__________________________________________________
White represents Those who died because of violence
Yellow or beige represents battered or assaulted
Red, pink, and orange are for survivors of rape and sexual assault
Blue and green represent survivors of incest and sexual abuse
Purple or lavender represents individuals attacked because of their sexual orientation
Black is for those attacked for political reasons
Survivor = A person who has survived intimate personal violence such at rape, battering, incest, child sexual abuse.
Victim = A Person who has died at the hands of her abuser.
_____________________________________________________________________________
The information above was taken from the Cloths line project website, I figured it would ad color at the same time as represent those who have been affected in many ways. I changed the “Women” to individuals and people, as Men and children also get abused
Ok so the project goes like this:
Using materials of your choice, you create a placemat with the colors listed above. Anyone can create it, in support of those affected. Survivors, are encouraged to make one to express how the event(s) impact them and any feelings they may want to express with words, pictures or anything. Families and Friends are also encouraged to make one to show support and also how they have also been impacted by their loved ones abuse. Even If you do not know anyone who has been affected you are still encouraged to make one to show those who have been affected there are people who support you. They ultimately are to show survivors and those lost along with their friends and families that they are not alone.
After the front is completed, information is going to be put on the back:
The colors and meanings
Then laminated or covered with clear contact paper so they can be wiped down.
Some people may not want to make a placemat however may have words of encouragement to express or poems to share or just anything, for those if you would like to, send them in to Bringinghopehome.gather.com or email them to BringingHopehome.heather@yahoo.com and I will gladly make one to include your supporting information (letters, poems, information etc) You can also send your placemats to give in the bulk I will be sending in. just let me know
This is something that can be done with the family or within organizations. The finished
ones will go to local Domestic Violence Shelters, or be sold to help non-profit
organizations like churches and outreach programs. The ones that are sold will also
include information on Teen and Dating Violence, as well as regular domestic violence,
with contact information for support.
