August Artistic Competition ~ Photo Art Monthly Competitions

The artistic competition for this month is:  Color Families

"Because people react strongly to colour, your photography will be enhanced if you know the feelings evoked by different colour.

"Red signals passion, anger or danger;

"white and red indicate optimism;

"yellow is cheerful;

"brown is rich and secure;

green denotes abundance or calm;

"blue is cold, distant, contemplative or reliable;

"white is a symbol of purity or coolness;

"black is either sinister or sophisticated.

"Red and white leap out of a scene and demand attention.  A subtle blend of colours provides an appealing and contiguous image,

"while vivid contrasts present a striking and assertive picture.

"Use colour to draw the eye to the main subject.  Sometimes the repetition of a single colour or the strident juxtaposition of the different colours can turn a mundane tableau into a stimulating scene."

All photos are my originals, though not all artistic and are just meant as examples of color and what you can express with it.

You can use color coordination naturally, or edit aspects of your photo to match, or convert to a monotone (all one color in a photograph).  I'll love to see how you all express yourselves with color families this month!

Photo Art Competition Rules:

1. Should have an artistic quality that you would appreciate seeing at a museum.
2. Altered and unaltered photos will be accepted.
3. Please include your photographic and editing processes so that we can learn from your experience.
4. It may or may not be your own interpretation of a classical artwork, but not a downloaded original.
5. Tag your entries with "Color" or "Colour"
   
6. Naming your artwork with a unique title will help others recognize your work in the polling.
   
7. You can combine your entries with current themes from other groups.
   

This competition will run from August 1, 2009 to August 31, 2009. We will be judging completely by poll.  If you would like your entry to be included at the start of the poll, please have your most artistic, on theme photo submitted before the last week of the month, August 26th.
