My Strawberry ~*~ RANT ~*~

I love strawberries!! A few weeks ago the boys and I went to a local farm to pick a few pounds. Well, those are all gone now and I need more.

Since they are in season here in Georgia, I have been looking at the stores for Georgia strawberries... all to no avail!!!

I have been to 2 Publix, 2 Krogers, a Food Lion, a local Mom and Pop, and the base commissary... EVERY strawberry in these store is from CALIFORNIA!!

Hello folks!!! That's 3,000+ miles away!!!!

The boys and I are heading back to the fields. It's only 30 minutes away.. pesticide free.... and cheaper!! Where's the common sense in these produce managers???

Hmmm. Well...at Krogers, I'm not sure what control the produce managers have. I complained about some things they used to have no longer being available and the general manager told me that they have no control anymore about what is ordered. All Krogers now have their orders done by the corporate office, and it doesn't matter that there are differences in each area about what foods people like or don't like. Pretty dumb, if you ask me.

It's funny ... I've lived in GA my whole entire life and I don't think I have once ate a GA Strawberry. lol

I am used to fruit and vegitables coming from other states. I am in Maryland and most of the fruit comes from florida or california or some other place I can't pronounce.

It doesn't suprise me. Strawberries will be in season here in Michigan next month, but they are darn near impossible to find in stores. I usually just get them at the farmer's market. They are SOooo much better than the nasty ones that they ship in from California. They always look so nice but have no flavor. Not to mention the fact that they've been on a truck so long that they rot the day after you get them home. I've sworn off strawberries until I can get the local ones.

I've been finding strawberries in the stores here fine, and pretty decent ones; not sure where from though. I'm sure that a farmer's market or something like that is much better though.
