I had my appt this morning with the specialist. My carpal tunnel is very severe according to them. They took x-rays of both hands. I will be having surgery on my right one on Feb. 9th. I am so glad. I want to get this done and over with.

The doctor said that he has had some patients feel better immediately. The surgery will only take about 10-15 minutes. I thought it would be more invasive but they tell me that it is just one incision in the hand. He also said I may or may not get all of the feeling back in my hand due to the severity of the carpal tunnel syndrome I have, but the pain will definetly get much better. I am ready for that. It's hurting bad right now, and my head is about to explode. : (

good luck with the surgery. My Uncle Don has Carpal Tunnel and a friend of mine. They tell me is it really painful. What sort of pain medications do you take for it ? My Grandfather had rheumatoid arthritis and it made his fingers crooked. I hope as I get older I do not inherit that or arthritis. Be sure and ask for pain meds after the surgery. They will help you sleep and relax as well as alleviate pain. good luck

I found I didnt get the feeling back to a long time,
15 years later I am still numb and cant open things as good
but its better then it was

Tamara...wow! Have you ever had the cortisone shots or surgery? It started for me in both hands. But it has gotten better in my left. Since I am right handed though, it has just gotten increasingly worse over the years. I have gotten to the point that it is majorly affecting my life, so it's time to do something about it. I feel for you too. I know exactly how frustrating and painful it is!

Sandi--I am concerned about that. The doctor said I may always have numbness. Some people do and some don't.

J.W.--The only thing I take for pain is Aleve. Ibuprofen does nothing. Tylenol does nothing. Not for me anyway.

I had a friend in Fl that had it done, and he recovered farely fast. He was so mush happier after it was done...Takecare and heal well. =)
