(Or, subtitle, yes, my articles are all gone now. Which is likely to be a permanent situation.)
I'm going to Kroger, because I need to get some dog food and other stuff. The last time I was at Kroger, the IAMS dog food was not on sale. I still have enough for the next day or so. But I do have a little brat dog and unfortunately, I have gotten him spoiled on IAMS.
I thought I would write a Gather "article" about this. After all, what else is a "points whore" to do? Wondering if anyone knows whether Kroger has put the IAMS dog food on sale seems to be almost the least offensive thing that I know of. But knowing some readers and commenters, maybe they will be able to find something to take offense about this.
Maybe I shouldn't have a dog? After all, the economy is tanking and everyone is in need. Maybe there are countries where people are actually eating dogs for food. And maybe there are Americans who are buying dog food to eat as food, as was depicted in the 1970s show Good Times, (you know the one with Jimmie "JJ" Walker). Well, I KNOW they didn't have IAMS back then. And even if they did, I wouldn't have fed it to my dog. (My 1990s dog, not my 1970s dog!)
But here's a relatively innocuous request, and one that I thought I would put out to the Gather community. My dog needs food and the last time I went to the grocery store to buy some, it wasn't on sale.
But as you can see, the subject of buying dog food has world wide and global-reaching political implications! How dare I have a dog, when there are so many needy people? And now, having dared to have a dog (where I picked him up for chump change, at the local humane society), how do I dare to feed him the most expensive dog food sold?
It was this month five years ago. The Humane Society was "having a sale." Instead of their usual $35 fee to adopt a dog, they were "on sale" for $20. I had to FORCE them to take my $35. That was after making a substantial donation to deworm and take care of another dog, a purebred dog, that was suffering from heartworms. As soon as the news story hit, that there were some great purebred small dogs, there was a great rush to the Humane Society to get them. I went to the Humane Society, and there was one, and I even gave him a name: "Bennie." I don't know why I picked that name, but it gave me focus. I focused on Bennie, and paid for him to immediately be de-heartwormed.
The Humane Society being what they are, they used my donation for something else. Poor Bennie sat there and was not expedited for heartworm treatment. Eventually I heard that they did worm him. But before that, I went to the Humane Society to look after him, and I found another dog instead. He was a dog that would like to break your heart. He was a mutt (or a "potcake" as they call them in The Bahamas). Part Jack Russell Terrier and part another breed, which I can't remember the name, but it is a very large dog with long legs. So my new dog is just the funniest and cutest dog going. He has incredibly long legs that he wraps himself around in contortions that only double-jointed human beings have.
He's also loyal, devoted, special, loving, and during my darkest hours of 2004 and the years after, he kept me going. He's kept me here. After all, I have a very "dog-friendly house." I won't move, because moving means that I would have to make my plans around the dog. He is not an apartment dog. He's spoiled rotten. I won't unspoil him and I won't give him away.
He deserves IAMS. And IAMS he is going to get. But I want to get it on sale. Does anyone know if Kroger is having a sale on IAMS?

you took all your posts down on purpose? I hope you write some more, but, since it sounds like something happened, I will not comment further,
Great rant, and spoil your dog, mine are rotten, and I would never change a thing about that, they protect me, love me, always happy to see me and they never talk back~~~~
Pedigree is good, and so is Beneful (which I think is a Purina brand). But when I have bought the "cheap dry food" - like Old Roy, he throws up! Throwing up is one thing. Slipping on some unsupected liquid stuff on the floor might be life threatening to me! LOL!
EWWWWWW not Old Roy!!!! slippiage is gross and could be hazardous to your health I bet!!!!
My dog is so spoiled that..... I completely redid the flooring in my house that it is all laminate flooring (brand name: Pergo, although I did not buy Pergo brand). Now THAT is one spoiled dog! LOL!
Good to hear we are friends! I'm not on Gather all that much nowadays either.
When I first got my 1990s dog (from the Humane Society in Palm Beach County, FL), he ate only Publix dry dog food. Because that was all I could "afford" back then. When my BFF (best friend forever, which did not turn out to be forever, actually!) offered my 1990s dog a pizza crust, I literally JUMPED between here and the dog to avoid her being fed table scraps!
But cats are OK. Bunnies are too! ;-)
I had to put down Foxy's "older sister" (the 1990s dog I referred to) a couple of years ago. It was tormenting to the both of us. If people don't think that dogs suffer "sibling loss" the way people do, they are very much mistaken. I still have Foxy though, and he is my strength and my....salvation, if you could say that, after I lost my husband/SO in 2004. He really gave me the strength to keep going, when I really didn't feel like keeping going much anymore after my Ray died in 2004.
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your wife and Minnie....
William, I was just so distraught when I read about Minnie. I think you have a great sense of humor (which I often don't "get!). Of course I'm glad you were not offended...
When I got my "2000s dog" (Foxy). Maxie persisted in eating his puppy chow. So I told her (and of course you do know that they understand us when we talk to them!), "If you are going to eat the puppy's puppy chow, then you aren't getting any more Kibbles N Bits!" By this time, she didn't have "daddy" to save her anymore from "mean ol' mommy!"
Strangely enough, I got the idea to start feeding my dog IAMS was from....a Gather article! It wasn't from a dog expert, just someone who pointed out something to me which I was completely oblivious about. That is that the dollar store brand stuff is full of filler, which is not good for the dog.
Just another example of how Gather - or any other one of the social networking sites - can provide a life changing experience. In this case, it changed the life of my dog!
We have a no-kill shelter here which means they always have lots and lots of dogs. I think they would give them away for free....but they just want to try to make sure they are going to a good home that is not going to abuse them. Now the "animal rescue focus" here is going to transporting dogs to where they will have loving homes, rather than trying to find local homes. If you think you can help on your end with this, I can try to put you in touch with the locals here. There are a lot of sad, sad doggies at the shelter and I wish I could take them ALL in!!!!
When Foxy came to me, he was SO badly infested with fleas, it took me a YEAR to totally get rid of them.
Sorry to hear your shelters are overflowing. Most of our transport dogs go to the Northeast where there are stricter spaying laws.
I've been putting in a new basement floor. Cutting the vinyl tile is difficult.
