Raegan is learning how to make different things. She can scramble eggs, make pancakes, mac n cheese, and a few other small things. Today, we tackled baking a cake. I had some cake mixes in the pantry, and Gillian choose Cherry frosting at the store.
We just put the cake in the oven. In 30 minutes, it'll be pulled out, then about 30 minutes later, we can go ahead and frost it.
Here's pictures taken while Raegan made the cake.

My mom taught me how to cook and bake too
Auntie M
I have the chocolate cake mix, and a container of butter cream frosting. Maybe we'll make that one up next weekend.
This made him very popular in certain circles.
You're on the right track with your daughter. My mother, while an excellent cook and with a huge cookbook collection, did not have the patience to teach me to cook. I mostly figured it out by first watching her for as long as she would let me and then waiting to try out new techniques when she was out of the house. Later (when I had my own kitchen) I taught myself. I haven't used an exact recipe in years....mostly I read a recipe's ingredient list and the instructions and use that as a springboard for my own inspiration.....
If she's baking a cake at this stage of the game, you are doing a great job. I've made French bread from scratch, kneading by hand and just 'knowing' when the dough was right or what it lacked (still not using a recipe) but I've never been able to bake a cake, even using a mix and following directions exactly. Brownies from a mix, yes. Cake? No.
On the other hand, I'm approaching 46 and have never caught a fish...not for lack of trying, either....LOL.
Oh, and he's a wonderful cook when we go camping....
The other day I made cookies out of my strawberry cake mix....kids ate them up.
