The kids are at school (yay!). We were worried about school today, because the snow started coming down fairly hard yesterday evening, and on the way home from work, Nick saw several cars in the ditch, and got held up on the highway for almost an hour due to a larger accident.
But, last night, it tapered off and today, there was school. Just before I left, two city plows came down the road, and of course, blocked me in. Actually, it wasn't too bad, it wasn't deep enough that I couldn't just drive over the barrier they created. I went the wrong way to school, though.
I know, after all this time of driving the kids, that doesn't sound right, does it? Well, if I take the normal way to school when the roads are bad, I get caught at the end of the road on a steep little hill, and it's hard for me to get out onto the next road from there.
Well, today I took that way- oops! About the time I realized it was when I was past the point of turning at the 4 way stop with the nice flat corners. I got to the corner, and realized the car in front of me, some tiny little foreign lightweight car, was just spinning it's wheels. I backed down the hill a bit, already knowing there was no way I'd get up it without a full head of steam.
The car kept spinning, and was starting to turn sideways at the corner without actually getting onto the next road, so I backed up some more. Finally, I realized there was no way that car was getting past the corner, and likely no way I would, either, so I turned around in a driveway, went down to the 4 way, and went out to a flat corner to turn back and get to the school.
The little car must have also realized they weren't getting anywhere that way, but instead of turning around, he backed up all the way down the block to the 4 way stop. Yep. In the wrong lane, too. Good thing no one was coming. Instead of using one of the driveways, which were all totally usable, and not blocked, he backed down, then backed through the intersection to turn the same way I was going. He finally got straightened out, though.
We're supposed to get a good amount of snow yet tonight and tomorrow- not enough to really worry about, but enough to make the roads crappy, and for our driveway to get plowed in even more. I parked in a different spot so I could shovel better. Nick shoveled out most of the driveway at least a bit before work, but the end is in need of shoveling, and the area around where I park, so I am not stepping in a foot of snow to get into the van. ;)
I have all my blankets in the washer right now. I need to go reset it to the spin cycle- it never gets them wrung out enough, so instead of running the dryer for an extra 20 minutes, I have to do the spin cycle twice on all my loads of clothing. It's cheaper, I think, electricity wise.
What I really need to do is take my mountain to the laundry mat, then sort it out while I'm there, and stop by Goodwill on the way home to drop off anything unwanted, unused, or that doesn't fit. When I do it at home, the piles always manage to sneak back into the clothing.
Because my blankets are in the wash, I can't lay back down. Last night, I thought maybe I was tired enough to skip the sleeping pill I had promised myself I would take all week. So, I skipped it. And I was up until after 3am. I'm tired, but I figured with no blankets on the bed, I'm less tempted to go back to sleep.
We decided to have a joint party for Chris (10 on Jan 15th) and Gilly (7 on Dec 27th) next Saturday at home, and invite everyone here. I don't have the gas money to go to GR, or the money to throw a party there- mainly because I hate imposing on people and using their houses, which means we're left trying to host a party at someplace like McDonalds or Chuck E Cheese. Too expensive right now.
I realize it's probably more expensive to have people come here, but I doubt most will come anyway. Last night I called my dad & step mom to let them know, and they thought that if the roads were good, maybe they'd come up this weekend instead, in case next weekend the roads were bad.
I have cleaning to do- not much, but my floors need a mopping badly, and I still need to pack away a lot of holiday stuff. I got so ambitious at first, and got most of it taken down and packed away in a single day. Now, I have the remainder to do.
I kind of want to clean and sort the back room today (it's small, but very cluttered), but I also kinda just want to lay in bed. Darn blankets.

Girl! Welcome to my life! Don't ya just hate it!
Krissy, is it as nice as I thought it would be, laying in bed? The blankets are only just in the dryer. Wah!!!
You also have two children with birthdays near mine, almost same ages - my son was 10 on Jan. 2 and daughter will be 8 on Jan. 27. It's so hard to try to plan a party at this time of year. Trying to book a place with snow and flu season is so unpredictable because so many people can't get there and then the money is wasted. Having it at home is hard too because you're so tired from the holidays, decorating and undecorating. Happy birthday to your two and good luck with your party prep. (I usually do a double party in the middle of January too but this year I decided we were all so tired I would do a garden party around communion time instead)
-sigh- I think the blankets are gonna win. Man, I don't even want to look at that pile. ;)
