I have done this before, poured a box of baking soda down the drain and followed it with vinegar. But you need to get the water out of the sink first, of course.

I heard just the other day that Alka Seltzer may do the trick. But I have not tried it.

For what it is worth, I've had better luck with Liquid Plum'r (sp?) than Drano when our sinks have plugged up before. I think it mostly from hair(?) because it is usually the bathroom sinks that get the problem occasionally. I double dose them and then run hot water through. Anyway, so far no plumbers needed....

I would suggest taking the pipe off under the sink to try fixing it yourself. This solution worked for one sink, but the other needed new pipes, so we had to call the plumber.

Good luck and hope it works out with a low cost solution.

Take a wire coat hanger. Yes they still make them.lol. Breat off the hanger part. then straighten the hanger. Push it slowly down the drain. Twist if you want to lossen up what might be down there. If you have added draino or something else don't get your habds in the water. There is a powder at the hardware store. It is the toughest stuff i have ever seen. if the hanger doesnt work .ask the guy at the hardware store. good luck.

I just remembered reading an article in here about a guy that used a flexible cable put into a drill motor to unplug a pipe. Running the drill motor and slowly feeding the cable in. Kind of a homemade Roto-router type action.
Anyway, thought I would mention it....

I just dump in baking soda and vinegar and let it sit for a while. Run some super hot water down and voila!

I also saw something about using a plunger to lift out the clog too.

Thanks for all the advice everyone, I used the baking soda and vinegar trick and it worked it took a whole box of baking soda and a whole bottle of vinegar to get it unclogged but at least its unclogged.
I followed that with some hot water and then poured in some drano max let it sit for a few minutes then rinsed it with hot water like the directions said and so far my clog hasn't come back.
My mom told me last night I might want to pour baking soda and vinegar into all the drains occasionally and see if I can't prevent clogs.
