cinnamon apple potpourri
roasted turkey, cranberries,
squash, apple pie a la mode;
Wind kicks up,
lifts leaves on the ground,
cold sun blows apples to your cheeks as you rake;

How I love this time of year…
memories of years past
those no longer with us
share the dinner table
wine, water for all
we raise a glass to toast;
Grandparents no longer here
parents, too, now we, as parents,
roast the bird, carry on a fine table
memories for all time;
How I love this time of year…
Christmas music,
a child born for the ages,
gold, red, crystal ornaments for the tree,
lit up, its pine aroma fills the room
shiny presents, a yearlong task;
Storms to come make a dreamland ice palace,
pixie dust transforms our world before our eyes,
into a world where make-believe dreams
come true, almost;
How I love this time of year…
differences put aside
family all together,
to love, share,
moments of disbelief, hatred,
pass until the new year brings
new problems, same problems, new face;
How I love this time of year…
cinnamon apple potpourri
roasted turkey, cranberries,
squash, apple pie a la mode;
Wind kicks up, lifts leaves
left on the ground,
cold sun blows apples to your cheeks as you rake;
How I love this time of year…
cycle goes round…

As much as I like this time of year I still long for spring.
You captured the whole season so well with your words.
It is funny how it goes round. It just sorta happens.
I'm not crazy about the holidays lately. Does not seem the same. Maybe cuz I don't have my mommy anymore.....
Still.......I love the season.
Lovely writing and delish pic!
watching the snow fall from our warm home
the smell of wassail in the air
pumpkin bread fresh out of the oven
shiny wrapping paper gifts under the tree
Oh how I love this time of year
Great poem
I am enjoying the dance of leaves and the burst of color out here in our little valley. It will be great to have a little time off as well.
I'm all for family, friends, feasts, and fun, but lately it seems like more work, stress, expense, etc. than enjoyment.
But I don't make a very good humbug.
I think the season touches that sense more so than any other season.
I would guess that you might just like this time of year? :P
And, I also love seeing my family without time constraints.
The best part about this time of the year, is just being able to relax, even for a little bit.
