Have you ever seen beautifully cut and decorated sugar Christmas cookies, then found that they taste like cardboard? You can avoid this in your own cookie dough by doing two things:
1. Add 1 teaspoon of almond extract to your dough, even if it is purchased dough or a mix. This gives the cookies a wonderful flavor.
2. Instead of rolling the dough on a floured board, use powdered sugar. Rub powdered sugar on your hands and the rolling pin. Dip the cutters into powdered sugar, too. Every little bit of powdered sugar will make your cookies sweeter and more flavorful.
These are a couple of baker's hints that have been handed down in my family. Happy baking!
