I'm not sure what anyone else was doing last night,
but I went back to the late '50's via special "time machine" sent to me and received in mail yesterday. When tom asked what kept us on gather once we Found the Site, many of us said "Friends", and we meant True friends, people we could laugh and cry with, and share stories of life.
Soooo, right after the conversation, I heard a beep at the mailbox, went out and found Such a thoughtful surprise from a friend I met here on gather. She is More than a friend, More than a Sister-in-spirit, and sometimes even I have to gasp at the ESP type things that go on between us. ((I do notice this a LOT on gather with various folk)) The surprise not only lifted my spirits, which have been low, baby, low, but it took me back to a simple time, a time of rock-n-roll, a time when Songs had meaning!
I spent the next few hours back in time, enjoying every beat of the music, Feeling my beloved dancing along with me....no matter that he crossed over to the next life way back in '76.... For awhile, he was here! With me!
It was such a glorious trip back to the past, I am somewhat surprised to see that upon awakening, the date is 2009....here is my time travel *tool *below:And it was a reminder of the next fav song back then... Don Mclean's "The day the Music died. it seemed it did die the day Buddy's plane crashed, for many of us fans... I would have loved being in Lubbock, texas, in oct. of '58. Buddy opened onstage with Elvis.
Can you Imagine the Energy onstage that night? do you think anyone knew how much both these young men would come to mean to fans?

"Rave on" is on this CD, and it is just as good now as back in the 50's....ViVa la Holly!!!!!
Charles Hardin Holley:1936-1959....R.I.P.
Thank you, special friend, for what you did for me! THANK YOU!
GATHER ROCKS!
(( For the " F" in all if us....Friends!!!))

Ater glaring at the screen for the 5th time today, due to gather not letting me post the photo for some reason, Sis walks in, clicks and Drags the darn thing into article... I leaned something new today...YAY!!
Yay for sis. And hugs to your Gather friend. What a sweet and thoughtful gift! So glad it made your day and brought back such beautiful memories for you.
And You, marge! I had to laugh at your cute post a bit ago... william gets us all going, doesn't he? I have made you treasurer,lol...
So glad it made you chuckle. :)
Oh yea..the click, pull and drop feature is toooo cool. Also when you are uploading you can click, pull and drop right into the load box from you file folder on your computer.
What a wonderful and thoughtful friend you have to send a little Holly into your day. But that really doesn't surprise me as I have made such wonderful friends here myself.
yep, katherine...we tend to give each other some very FELT hugs at times, yes?
pif...sounds like you had a wonderful time....
I was 6, I think, when "the music died"... but almost all of my best friends all of my life were (and are) about 5-8 years older than I am so I know many of the old songs that you wouldn't think I would...
But I do. ;^D
ha,ha... jean. I'll never tell howold I was, but I did once marry a fellow simply because he LOOKED like Holly.....
good for you Penni. Glad it was a musical day for you, filled with good remembrances...
"Oh,Boy", was it good mems, randall....
A great blast from the past.
I didn't want to leave it, kay.... oh, baby please do "Not fade away", is what i thought when the song of that title came on,lol
Yea, Not Fade Away. Now that's Rock And Roll.
wonderful. Friends are great here on gather!
Yep, we get hugs, "words of love", and so much more than that with our little gatherland, lisa...hug
It's always nice when we can give each other a small piece of ourselves. I'm glad you have a friend who cares about you.
"Everyday", paidra, "everyday",lol... you are SOOOOO loved, lol
Beautifully written, Penni, with an abundance of thoughtful reflections on music, history and the incredible connections with friends through this valuable site. Music becomes the language of memory, integrating sometimes even the most abstract of elements into our ever-present consciousness. Buddy Holly's music shall always rave on, especially in the hearts of countless fans.
beautiful comment, Glenn....Buddy was wayyy before his time, that's for sure, and shall live on in many hearts.
A bit, Shells...think something was going around the neighborhood? You should have come on over saturday...we had some fun playing cards...
Friends make the world go round, don't they? Sometimes your friends are better than your own family, in my opinion.
Jan
for some of my family, that is SOOO true, jan...
Lots of good memories here. I have a Buddy Holly album. He wrote great tunes.
Your appreciation of the gift is heart warming, Penni, as is the gift itself.
right,John...The thoughtfulness is what REALLY made my day.
Wouldn't it be great if they had great music like that today. We could dance slow to the sway of the music, do the twist , cry in our beer, for the drinkers. Just have a great time with nothing but music in our system. I loved the good old time rock and roll. Buddy Holly was one of the greatest. He just was needed in Heaven to sing to the Angels and make them happy too.
Come on over, norma... i'll turn the speakers up and we will ROCK,lol....
What a sweet and thoughtful gift Penni! How very kind of your gather friend. We do make true lasting friendships here don't we :-)
And a REALTIME hug from Shells M. tonight....that was great!
memories from the past are sometimes much better than the present realities, and thanks for commenting on my stuff
Usually If I am sitting with a smile on my face. I am either listening to good 50 and 60's music or remembering memories from the past and escaping the present. As Connie said.
Now I have "The day the music died" singing in my head. I had a summer job at the elections office and it was on one of the tapes we kept playing.
I'm glad you have such a thoughtful friend, Penni! Music can heal many wounds, I'm glad it brought you some joy 8)
American Pie is one of my favorites. Although for my husband it means much more. He was listening to American Pie when he opened his draft notice for Viet Nam.
Somehow I missed this, but about the same time, maybe a week earlier, over Memoril Day Weekend, we went to see the Platters onstage ain the Daytona area.
It would be remiss of me not to say that, "Time Machines do exist." I will testify to that.
That was very nice of someone and very nice you wrote this article about it. We often don't realize that a day with out music is like a day without sunshine!
I get a thrill from your happiness, Penni!
Love that music, too!
What a wonderful gift penni and yes, my friend, I know what you mean by that "connection" thing here on Gather, I've felt it with a few here too ;-)
Holly was one of a kind...sometimes it seems he didn't get all the attention he deserved for his incredible talent, and then to die so young. Thank to Mclean for his song brining him back in the limelight.
this is awesome!
