I decided while I was over that way anyway visiting my daughter, I'd take a ride up to Grand Haven to see the sights there and spend a little time on the beach! What follows are some of the interesting things I spotted while there. We enjoyed our little excursion and I hope you will too!

The Historic Grand Haven Lighthouse and Pier has seen her share of tragedies and the warnings couldn't be more clear and ominous. And yet people are drawn to it light a moth to a porch light. My daughter and I were no exception...

Sea gulls seemed to like to perch on top of the lights along the pier. On this particular day, they served as a respite for those who dared to brave the winds off the end of the pier for a bit of fishing. They flew into the wind, but seemed to be treading wind for much of the time as the winds were strong on this day.
Sea gulls weren't the only ones out fishing. We spotted a few people casting their lines into the rough waters. I didn't notice whether or not they actually caught anything as I was mesmerized by the water and the waves breaking onto to end and sides of the pier.

There were a few boats that went on this day. We heard one woman talking on her cell phone from the pier to someone telling them they would not be going on the big lake because the waves were just too high.

The view from shore was just beautiful as well. If you look carefully in the one photograph, you will be able to see another angle of the crashing waves against the pier.
Here's a shot of the coastline next to the pier. I remember the first time I saw one of the Great Lakes as a young girl ~ I was sure we had an ocean in Michigan! You couldn't see from one side of the lake to the other. Surely that was an indication of a great body of water ~ it MUST be an ocean ~ just look at those waves!

Walking along the beach, there were a few things that caught my eye as we neared ever closer to the car and the end of our little day trip.

One last little ride up the hill for a glimpse the five mile bluff overlook. This beautiful home sits on the end of the street just next to the overlook. I can dream, can't I?

I will surely be back to this beautiful place!
On the ride home, we spotted this beauty of a restored barn that had been converted into a restaurant. Unfortunately it was closed. Maybe next time...

Hope you enjoyed this little day trip with me!
Please come again real soon for part 2...

If you were there Sunday I was just up the coast from there at PJ Hoffmaster State Park, taking in a wonderful day of boogieboarding!
Then I spent yesterday on this very pier fishing in the rain!
Thanks for sharing... It's really very neat to see other peoples perspectives of the places I know and love.
Thank you, Joy ~ glad you enjoyed it. =)
Thanks for stopping by!
I'm hoping that Pher, at least, will be up that way soon. He needs to visit a few of the colleges there, including Hope, Kalamazoo, Alma, and Albion.
