Fun with Photographs - Selective Desaturation

This can only be done in Photoshop or I suppose other high end graphics programs.

What I like is that you can essentially make one area of your photo popout by selecting the part of the image you want.  Then inverting the selection area and desaturate it.

Without going into a tutorial, here are some of the images where I have used desaturation with emphasis.

By far this one has to be my favorite, the bright red lady bug.

This is my second favorite because I left only the eye colored.

I didn't do a good job on the stem you can see the squiggly lines, but the background has been desaturated.

What I love is that this sky was moderately blue and I changed the character by desaturating the sky.  This has to be one of my favorite post production photo effects.
