BELLFLOWER - The woman who delivered octuplets at Kaiser Permanente Bellflower Medical Center earlier this week already has six children, it was reported today.
A family acquaintance who asked to remain anonymous told the "Early Show" on CBS about the other children -- four boys and two girls -- and said two of them are twins.
Asked if she thinks the family will be able to support 14 children, the acquaintance said that "so far, they've been fine with the six they have. Fourteen -- I don't know," CBS reported.
The woman and her children live with her parents on a cul-de-sac, according to the network.
The six boys and two girls delivered Monday by Caesarian section 9 1/2 weeks early continue to be doing well, a hospital spokeswoman said this morning. All of them remain in incubators.
Five of the babies have been breathing room air while three others have been receiving oxygen through the nose.
The mother, who has asked not to be identified, saw the babies Tuesday night, but has not held them, said Socorro Serrano, a Kaiser spokeswoman.
At birth, they ranged in weight from 1 pound, 8 ounces to 3 pounds, 4 ounces. They are the second set of surviving octuplets born in the United States.
