Groups - what's the benefit of owning one?

Ok, there are so many groups out there, but I was still thinking of starting my own. Why? I have no idea! lol  But, I had an idea but wondering if I really have time to pursue it. So here are my questions...

1) do you get points for people posting to your group?

2) can you have moderators to help you?

3) If moderators are allowed, is there a limit?

4) can you set it up for an automated response to each message sent to the group?

 Here's my idea...  create a group with at least 10-20 people committed to commenting on as much as they possibly can to make sure each post gets at least 10 comments

So who would be willing to commit to helping me?

Those are some good questions, I'm not sure how the points work.
Not sure about the moderators either, and I dont think that y ou can have automated responses, but man o-man that would be sweet!

I own groups to widen my friends and to see more photos..

I'm not sure of the answers really either. I started my group hoping my friends would join and then it would be a lot easier to read all of their content.

I own 7 groups, 6 with a certain theme, and 1 a post anything type; and just do it by myself. I don't get anything for them point wise I'm pretty sure. I just enjoy the topics, and checking in each day etc. I don't have mine moderated, where things have to be approved first though, which you can do if you want to. I just don't want to hold up articles in some queue for approval is all, in case I don't check in one day or longer...
There are a few groups out there similar to what you propose, but I suppose another wouldn't hurt really. Members are supposed to comment on each others stuff etc. Have fun and go for it; see what happens. You can always back out later/end it I think.

I know for me, I started my group because I wanted to start something where people with similar interests can all share their work in one place. That way, if you want to see a certain theme or person's work, you can be part of a group.

I started my groups as a result of things that were important to me. I also have one post anything group. I honestly do not think that we get anything for owning groups.

Still uncertain how the points are calculated as it seems when I post I comment I get points but when people post to mine, it doesn't seem I get credit for each post.

I like your idea though when I first joined Gather last year there was a small group that has since dissolved but it was a cozy place for us to post and gather points. I'd join your group.

I had heard that you don't get points for owning groups. You also don't get points if people post to your group. Only if you do a post and they comment on it. I started the cookieexchange cause I was hoping to get more idea's for holiday cookies. I had to start moderating it because posts not related to the subject were ending up there. I also think that the group pay if forward is like what you want to start. Good luck.

http://stressreducers.gather.com/ My first group and the one that helped me focus to get on the cash option. I'm easily stressed out.

http://tvviewers.gather.com/ I watch a lot of television and its where you might see a recap or two of television shows.

People should have enough ambition to comment on what they want to see. Running around leaving a boring "I was here" and a goofy graphic says they are not even looking at your stuff. They are worried someone will beat their a$$ if they don't meet a "goal".
