The holidays have come
And yesterday was lost
What new that might have been done
Was shrugged aside and tossed
What is one to do
Facing the holidays all alone
Especially when you were raised
Holidays meant family, faith and home
I lost my home
More than a year ago
And my family all
Has their own way to go
Parents have gone on too soon
To their own reward
And the children have to follow
All of their own accords.
In-laws, Exes, and family too
Seem like a different lifetime to me
And now the loneliness is soaking through
All I do or see
What have I done
To fail the line
So I have no family
During the holiday times?
*****I just wanted to add a note. After seeing what I posted, my kids have gotten together and set up an afternoon meal here with me, and even invited my aunt and cousin to join us. All of the wishes and encouragement you have made, really lifted me up when I needed it!!! Thank you my friends!*****

how it really should be
now count yourself in
as family to me.
Good stuff
Hugs
Love and Hugs to you!!
Be your own family first hun.
Family is who and what you make it, sometimes there's no blood realation involved. Your ex was not blood either just someone you chose to spend time with.
From my own experience I can tell you that I have been alone and I didn't like it. Think of it as temporary and consciously work on connecting with others. You can do it, in the meantime, enjoy the time with yourself - create a wonderful day for yourself and who knows maybe your neighbor across the hall or next door is alone too and wouldn't mind hanging out together.
Holidays - Schmollidays - it's a day - gone tomorrow. So don't fret about it, it ain't that important in the scheme of things - just think about making it better next time.
Poets have a great gift for situations like this: escape! You can spend Thanksgiving writing about anything that lifts your spirit! You can paint a beautiful picture with words. You can review the comments on your posts and feel all warm and fuzzy.

To fail the line
So I have no family
During the holiday times?"
The answer is, you've done nothing.
Sometimes people let us down and we blame ourselves needlessly. I would much rather be alone than with people who don't add value to my life.
Do you have a pet? Animals can provide wonderful company. I've been lucky so far and never spent a holiday alone, but I would try to reach out to someone: a friend, a neighbor, or someone from church if I felt the need to be with someone.

It is about choices when life gets tough. You can choose to see the difficulty and realize that this too will pass. That will bring a certain peace.
Or, you can let the difficulty steal your joy totally. This will bring depression.
Choose to be in a place of peace.
At first it won't be easy nor even believable. But when you get in the habit of choosing not to be depressed, the peace will come more often and come to you more quickly.
God be with you.
