Couple trades cockatoo for children

I just come across this article in weird news today...yea this is some weird news I tell ya,and it wasnt laughable,how do you not know this is illegal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! duh!!!!!!!!! the people that are facing prison dont get my sympathy on this one thats for sure!!

Paul and Brandy Romero, a Eunice, La., couple, traded their cockatoo and $175 to Donna Greenwell for two children. Though Greenwell was not the mother of the children, they were living with her at the time of the trade. The DAs stated that the Romeros were unable to have children themselves and were unaware that the trade was illegal. The Romeros claim that they were simply attempting to provide.

The couple faced a five - year prison sentence for sale of a minor child; however, the sentence was nullified in exchange for testimony against Greenwell. Greenwell, of Glenmora, La., has pleaded not guilty to two counts of sale of a minor child. Greenwell's lawyer claims that she did not swap the children and was only attempting to find them a good home.
