This proves it when I tell folk I saw a 30 footer ...Once near dade city, Fl. and years alter in riverview, Fl. My S-i-L was with me the first time, and brother dan was living near the Riverview siting and said he and another brother had seen the 30 footer a number of times...
Yup, in additon to rattlers, water moccasins and coral snakes we now have Boa Constrictors, Pithons, and even Monitor Lizzards in South Florida. So much for the people who love exotic pets and when the get too big they dump them in the Everglades.
yep, and I do not believe science can truely say HOW big they get in the wild, david... The first one I saw was wrapped around the cage of a road dozer, with the driver running down the road screaming his HAID off.
Yikes! That is terrifying.
That's a darn big snake and Alton, Illinois isn't that far away from me.
HOLY S..... ummm ewwww
Yea I saw this on the internet some time ago and thought the same thing you did....hope that the snake was allowed to live as he was only looking for food. And it also looks like he had recently ate, so shouldn't be hungry for some time again
I would REALLY like to know if he indeed lived, katherine...wonder how we can follow-up?
I just read...the story is true, but not for illinois...or the US for that matter. It actually was found in Africa. This story has been circulating the internet in different forms for 4 years now. Look it up for urself googling urban legends snake and electric fense.
Don't believe everything you read.
Supposedly here is the original story: African Rock Python
Wow!katherine...wow!
unusual place indeed for a snake that big, renee... it would not surprise me to see it here in florida.
Ok, It wasn't illinois, like you found, katherine....but did you see the full grown ewe in it's belly? EWWWWW...And SAD that it was killed just because it needed to eat.....
I'm kinda thinking that the electric fence might of killed him...though I didn't read that it was dead of it's own doing...but in Africa I don't think they'd kill the thing for the heck of it
I still SWEAR that I have seen larger in Florida...twice...honest!
Note to the *troll*... I never SAID I took the photos and I SAID katherine found the original truth.... happy now? I was just amazed at the SIZE of the thing, no matter where it was found...
Good grief! That's a monster!! Looks like a boa that my Dad had as a pet in Viet Nam many years ago. He used to feed it live chickens, if you can believe that. I am going to look for that picture now.
I'd love to see that, es... I did not have a camera either time I saw HUGE ones.
I think it has a cavity.
lol, William... whatever it Had, it has no longer, alas....for katherines link shows the critter quite beyond the earthly realm...
o my
My son's Burmese python was only 14 feet long when he passed him off to someone else. But of course he was not poisonous. He was a friendly snake but certainly capable of eating an adult human were he so inclined.
I had friend with the same size snake, John. he gave me "Lolita's" shed skin about three times a year and I would drape it across my fenceline.
A bad neighbor hood, but FUNNY! Not one eprson came Near my yard all 4 years I had the snakeskins,lol...
Clever. Reminds me of a couple living in Burnham, Maine in the 1950's. They raised chickens on contract but some were being stolen, so he went into town to buy bear trap springs. Of course the locals wanted to know why, and he told them some chickens had been missing. No more stolen chickens!
Too funny, john...see, we don't All need guns for protection, just some off the wall "thinkin' ''
OMG!!! That would freak me out!!
I find most snakes fascinating. This one might have scared me though because of its size.
You saw one bigger than that?!? Like running around free? Scary.
Two, Shannon....30 years and 50 miles apaprt,lol... I KNOW the biggies are out there! :)
Goodness, that is a monster. Next monster movie, beware the giant snakes!
Holy crap, thats scary Spirit! LOL!
wonder what your dog tony would do with one THAT size, mychell? hope we never have to find out?
dumping unwanted cats and dogs is terrible enough
but dumping exotic animals is not only inhumane
it also messes with the ecosystem.
Too true, Altair
Holy moley. I don't like snakes. That one could eat my youngest child!! ((shutter))
I don't want to meet that snake ANyWHeRE!!!
I dont like snakes, I have been bitten by a rattlesnake. It hurts, not the bite, but what happens afterwards is pure unadulterated pain. The swelling, throbbing. My foot was blue, yellow, black and every kind of color. Now every scar I have on my legs, is from running away from snakes. Tripping and tearing my legs up.
Wow, norma... we have water mocs down here that I am leery of, and also the rattlesnakes...but as much as I camp out and run around the woods, I have been lucky so far...no bites!
Wow now that is a BIG snake!
It gives me the creeps!! UGH!!
