This camel's back is broken

I am in dire straits again... partially because I quit working for the one person from whom I received steady income. Why? Because he got on my case for something which I had done countless times before without him being concerned... then he would not shut up long enough to let me do what he was requesting. He just continued to berate me as if I were some stooge.

Furthermore, this man, who has a loyal and loving girlfriend, spends God knows how much money on sleazy hookers and then talks about it. This amounted to sexual harassment in my view... and I was sick of it. He disgusts me.

Therefore the only way I'd work for him again is if he:

1. Apologized profusely and promised to maintain a more businesslike demeanor in the future

2. Gave me a long-overdue raise... $2/hour minimum

3. Signed a contract giving me 1% of every deal he closes

Since those things are NOT likely to happen, I must seek work doing the only two things I'm any good at... building websites or performing my music. I'd really prefer the latter even though the money would not be as plentiful because I feel that my music is the essence of me and what I'm meant to be focusing upon.

With the holidays come up, you might be able to get some jobs playing music- advertise on Craigslist. You never know what you'll find!

Thanks, Heather. That is exactly what I have done. I advertised on backpage.com also. I would LOVE to have a gig playing nothing but Christmas songs! That would be SWEET!

A family member has been into the Christmas tree business for YEARS, over 30.
What a huge attraction would be having a live performer at a lot?? Sing all the Christmas music your heart desires :0)

Well, I know WHERE they tend to do it, just not WHO. I suppose if I wait 'til they start selling them that will be good enough... if I get the busker's permit for the park I'll play Christmas songs there, too.

I've discussed this with some other people and decided that as soon as I see a tree lot go up, I'll approach them. If they refuse, I'll go to the next one. Surely at least one will be interested.

I never took the application back to the ArtsPark yesterday... thinking about waiting 'til Mondy so it won't get lost over the weekend - I have this vision of them telling me they never saw it...

Besides, I still don't have the money for the permit even if they approve me to get one.

This is the God, the Universe helping you move into where you are to be, using your God given talents. As Princess said, the holidays are coming up--that's why sometimes fate moves us in directions we aren't expecting. By not having the job to take up your time and energy, you can now devote yourself to doing what you are meant to do. Put up flyers in public places, see if you can get a spot being interviewed in the local paper and or radio station. I'm saying some extra prayers for your dream life to be fulfilled.

I trust that you restrained yourself from placing a knee somewhere when you quit. Not the best time of the year to make this move, but I completely understand why you did it. I can only wish you good luck in whatever you decide to do.

LOL yes... I just said "I've had enough. Please pay me. I'm leaving." And he STILL kept going on and on about the stupid little thing that he was bugged about. I think the man is losing his mind.

Thanks, Larry. I just found out that our local Arts Park is offering busker's permits, so I'm going to submit an application and audition for a spot.

Have you thought about contacting any of the clients you serviced at you previous job? I know you would prefer music, but it may open some doors you hadn't considered?

Yes. I do SEO... but organically, so it takes a bit of time for your site to rise. You can pay for placement, but it can get really pricey so unless you have a product that you expect to sell a lot of, it's not always cost effective. My price list is here. If the page is already online, I charge $5/page to add simple SEO using meta tags. If you want me to email you my full list of SEO offerings I can do so... haven't put that online yet.

The audition was nonexistent. I showed up and he asked me to bring back a CD instead because the other two people who have to listen to it couldn't be there. Grrrrrrrrrrrr! They could have just told me to bring a CD in the first place instead of letting me think I was going to a live audition!!!

I would try and use the old clients for future business. Sounds like a great idea to me. Get something out of that job.

I don't have any way to use old clients for future business. They were strangers who wanted to buy boats, got their boats, and have no need for me or my services. However I could go work for a rival broker using everything that I learned from him... but I'd rather not unless my back is to the wall and I have no other options.

Yes. It's a start... and my husband scraped up the money to keep my cell phone from being turned off, which gives me a better chance of getting such work... if my cell phone had been cut off I would never have heard from the new student.
