Whip It! - movie review

Drew Barrymore (acting and directing), Ellen Page (from Juno)... and MANY more.

This is a culture I know NOTHING about - roller derby - and with skates that have four wheels in the corners - old school - I guess they give better stability when you're pushing your opponent out of the rink.

There are cliches - so all the reviews mention - a teen who seems out of touch with her parents and her parents' wishes... okay... but seeing Daniel Stern (the voice of the Wonder Years) as a run down, beer drinking dad... it seems odd.

I enjoyed the movie, if for nothing else, a view into a life I knew nothing about... oh, and a VERY hot scene in the pool (although I kept wondering when did they breathe?)

Oh, and AMC is now selling "real tea" - iced tea - green, white, regular and unsweetened. YUM... cold tea in time for cold weather...?

Part of this movie was filmed in the area where we live and at a restaurant we go to. I took pictures at the restaurant when they were filming there.

My mom was in the roller derby back in the late 1960s. She participated for about two years until we moved to another state. She loved it.

Well I liked the older movies of roller derby!
Cold real tea no different then getting cold pop!! lol

I loved this movie because it did a good job capturing a scene I'm familiar with and it featured Juliette Lewis who is one of my favorite actresses. I was going to try out for my friend's roller derby team a few months ago but then I ended up having to move to the other side of the state because of my fiance's job. I've been so busy with the move and everything but I hope to find a team in south Florida.

I really liked Juliette Lewis and her character.
I know so little about this sport, but as depicted in the movie, it seems to fill a gap in many women's lives.

Good movies always take into a generation you know or don't know. I love movies, your review gets me wanting to see the movie and the great actress Drew Barrymore.
