I'm watching "So You think You Can Dance." I love the show - love any type of true talent show. But here's what I don't get.
Does it not require a good voice to be a singer any more?? I'm listening to the "guest artist," I think they said his name is John Kingston. And, quite honestly, I couldn't understand half of the words of the song. Ok...not abnormal for the first time hearing it. But while he's singing I keep thinking..his voice isn't even good. He does NOT have a nice singing voice at all. And I've noticed this with alot of "guest artists" on various shows lately. I mean, I get that I don't like particular styles of music. But, I do appreciate talent regardless of whether or not I like the "style" of the music. The song had a good beat. I imagine the lyrics would not have been to my liking based on the bits of it that I could understand. But, the voice was awful!!!
So... heck, I can sing better than that? Think I should try to be a star?? LOL
THAT was not talent. That was someone who has brilliant marketing!

In addition to his not being able to sing, his pants were hanging halfway off his behind (and it was a big one). I couldn't really pay attention to the song because I thought any minute he was going to lose his pants.
LOL Yeah, I know. I don't understand how people can handle that! That would drive me crazy! And it was certainly I sight I did NOT want to see! lol
Nor I! :))
I have seen this on other shows. I don't get it either.
Hmmm... All my fellow dancer friends/acquaintances seem addicted to that show, however, I rarely watch TV and therefore never get into any of the shows that are on, especially the reality/talent shows.
It is interesting, however, to read the perspectives of those who have actually watched it. Sounds like a pretty eventful episode!
You've never had to have a good voice to be a singer. There's the entertainment factor. Really, Britney Spears can barely carry a tune and her voice has no timbre whatsoever but she can shake her butt and people are willing to pay to see it. *shrug*.
You're absolutely right. I just think in the past 10 years it's gotten so much worse.... I mean, some of them at least carry a decent tune even if they aren't great. But this guy just sounded awful - not even slightly good. Seriously, I could do better. I do sing some, but only in groups - no soloist quality voice but I could do better than that!
its not always the voice, sometimes it is the message, but that only applies when you write the music yourself, and its personal. not the case with most if not all the people you are speaking of.
If there were a good message in the song, I'd be OK with it. But this was only about shaking your booty from what I could understand!
i have noticed that for a while now. i just thought it was me. glad someone else feels that way too!
ROFL...I've never seen the show so I can't really comment but yeah what's happened to all the wonderful singers and musicians and thinkers of long ago.
I don't watch the show, but it sounds like its not something to watch right now.
The actual competition part of the show is awesome if you're a fan of various dance styles. It's just these "guest artists" that I don't get!
yes, the show is pretty much amazing
I don't watch that show too often..But, it sounds like I didn't miss anything
that night : (
I don't watch the show, but if I had been listening to someone sing that really couldn't, that would be enough for me to change the channel.
I never know how some of these people make a living with their awful raspy voices that you can't make out the words. I'm with Renee, change the channel.
Normally I would, but I still wanted to see what I watch the show for - the dancing, not the guest artists (and I use the term artist very loosely here)
I was thinking the same thing- I've never heard the song before- maybe it was an off day?
I doubt it...they usually lip sinc those but I wasn't paying attention close enough to know if that was live or lipsinc
I don't watch that show so I didn't see the guest singer your talking about but I totally agree with you about some singers out there. For example I saw the Jonas brothers on one of the early morning news shows I watch, I couldn't beleive how awful they are! I couldn't understand anything they were saying, I had to turn off the tv because it was soooo bad!
LOL and my girls LOVE them! But, yes, they were on Dancing With The Stars last season as a guest artist and I was not impressed.
LOL I dont' watch it... none of those shows actually! But I do notice that they are not so great sometimes when I turn the TV on and it happens to be on that channel!
I didn't see it. Thanks for posting to my group.
I record it and skip the "entertainment" and commercials. :)
I've never actually seen the show, guess I should try and catch it some time. PN
I turn the sound off when something like this comes on. I wish that the guys would keep their pants pulled up, if I wanted to see someones crack, I would go look in a mirror or take a peek at my hubbys
points nation
LOL!!
I sure wish I had seen that, so did he lose his pants? LOL
I agree, a lot of the singers I hear are just "ok"..someday a Celine or a Whitney will come along again...
Here to help from: Points Nation!
Not on camera, at least! I don't know how they stand that! I've seen guys playing football at the park - one hand holding up their pants as they run for the pass!
marketing at its best
lending you a helping hand today
It doesn't seem like being able to sing has anything to do with being a singer these days - odd isn't it?!
