Angela...I guess if I had to pic my fav it would have to be the "Modern Encyclopaedia of Cooking" It's that green tattered one in the bottom pic. It was my grandmother's. It has everything you need to know in it from boiling water to cooking a muskrat...not that I would...lol I look out on the web too! lol

You know Priscilla I forgot I even had that ice cream one until I gathered all my books together. Actually there were a few I bought and haven't even opened. Sad....

I collect cookbooks to. But they are allin my filing cabinets. As I have no shelves to place them...yet!!

Oh my, I'm afraid I am in way over my head. I have a hundred and a half cook books that I have collected in my own life, and have inherited four hundred or more from my mother. Certainly I recognize the famous red and white Better Homes book - mine is 20+ years old now. Beyond that we own Julia Child, and Paula Deen in common, but different books.
My favorites are these three:
"Martha Stewart Living Cookbook" (compiled from the first 10 years of her magazine)
"Best Recipe" from the Editors of Cooks Illustrated (Kimball)
and "The New Basics" (Rosso & Lukins)
I have others that I use periodically, but those above are the three I would save in a house fire.

YAY another collector Minipin. ;) I finally brought these up into my office area where I had shelf space. I had a big group of them down in the kitchen in an old wine display (looked cool...but they were getting icky from frying..etc.) and some here and there. Now they all live together. In this room I use as my office there is 3 shelves lining on wall. They are prob 10-12' long. I have room to grow now...lol

I don't cook, but it would appear you have a lot of cookbooks.

Oh I am jealous Kenn. I feel like a baby collector now! lol wow...just wow! I actually just subscribed to the Cook's Illustrated magazine. I'm waiting on the first issue to arrive. I can't wait for it. :)

It seems that I am a dabbler collector Marianne. Sheesh Kenn beat me by a longshot..lol I am still wowin over how many he has.

You do have a lot more than I do, but I still have over a dozen...LOL...I love my Hershey's cookbook.

I'd love to browse your bookshelves! I have a LOT of cookbooks - I'm a foodblogger/photographer, so they're also helpful for ideas, but I cherish them all. So many new good ones, too! This weeks faves are Sherry Yard's "Secrets of Baking", my old, old, paperback of "The French Chef" ( I need a new copy as it's falling apart), Anthony Bourdain's "Les Halles" cookbook, and that beautiful hardcover coffee table book "Herbs".
Last week I was reading Cajun food and a southern cooking paperback from a church group in Alabama!

And I'd love to browse yours! ;) I'm going to have to look your favs up. I'd love to see your Herbs one. I love the paperback ones from churches or groups...they always have some of the good 'old' recipes in them. Ones I grew up on. Either having the food at my house or a friends house.

Being in the UK, I don't recognise those books - but my own shelves GROAN under the weight of at least 250 cookbooks! Including my family 'receipt' book - started by an ancestor in 1816... I make some of the more traditional Scots recipes almost exactly the same today as when they were written!

Oh wow Ishbel! I'm thinking after reading everyone's comments that I need to go shopping for more! lol What a treasure to have that receipt book. What fun it must be to look through it. :) Your cooking sounds wonderful.

I have a few, but not near that many. LOL I don't use many of them any more. If I want a recipe I just google it and someone always has a good one listed. I do have one old old book of favorite family recipes that my mom put together ancient years ago and it still has some of the recipes I like best.

I google recipes too Lee. I wish I had something like that of my Mom's Lee. I cook a lot like her but some of her recipes I don't have. And if I look in her recipe box a lot of them she's written in shorthand. Which I used to be able to read....but have long forgotten my shorthand. I made up recipe books for my kids year before last for Christmas with all the recipes that I had in my box that they grew up liking that I made or other had made. I haven't had nearly the amount of phone calls I used to get on 'how do I make this Mom?" lol

I'll have to come a visiting Ishbel. :) I love looking and trying others recipes. I like many things whereas Bill here is a very picky eater. So it's hard a lot of times coming up with something we both can eat. But thank you I'll stop by and take a look at your recipes. :)

I used to have several hundred, but finally started getting rid of them. They just take up too much space.

I kept the good ones like Bayless's Mexican ones, Bon Appetit and Joy of Cooking.

I have plenty of space up here in my office. The shelves are looooong. I'd like to pick up the Joy of Cooking one of these days to add to my collection. :)

The Joy of Cooking is probably my most-used, but the Bread Baker's Apprentice is probably my fave. I only have around 50 or so, on top of the fridge, and in a couple of cupboards. And of course, laying around the house.

lol that's how mine where Shelly. I had them here and there...now they live in one place. ;) Bread Baker's Apprentice looks good I just looked it up. I need to find some time to get back in the kitchen and bake again. With starting work and Spring yard work I'm not in the kitchen much.

Kim, I've been collecting cookbooks since I started to cook. I can't even begin to think of how many I have but I've got shelves and shelves of them. I also have a full file cabinet of recipes I've collected from friends and relatives.

never a dull moment with all of these......I have too many fav's to choose
