My question is simple. Bud Selig, the Commissioner of Baseball and lapdog of his fellow Owners, and Donald Fehr, the head of the players' union, have colluded in their ineffectual response to steroid abuse over the past ten years. First they ignored it because homerun ball was filling the seats, then they pretended it would get better without testing, then they acted outraged. They have both needed to go for a long long time.
Back in the day, the Commissioner of Baseball was the next best thing to God. Judge Landis reacted to the Black Sox scandal by making sure that none of them played big league ball again, including Shoeless Joe who really was not as guilty as the others. It was harsh, maybe unfair, but it did get results. No more trading a world series game for a payoff under the table. Can we get somebody in who will do things for the good of the game, instead of grubbing for a dollar today and letting the game slowly die?
