I went back to the doctor yesterday. It turns out I have a nasty case of bronchitis. This explains why this thing is just lingering and will not go away. He put me on antibiotics which I started last night. I actually saw the nurse practitioner who actually talks to you, not at you. I told them I want to see him from now on. I also got my flu and pneumonia shots. She wanted to give me one in each arm, but I opted to have them both in my left arm. I am so glad I did that because my left shoulder is so sore now and I am a righty. I even use my right hand more when I type.
The other doctor gave me a prescription for Ambien which I have been patiently waiting for. They still didn't have it yesterday and I asked the pharmacist what the holdup was. He said the prior authorization was denied. So I called the insurance company to ask why. They said it was not denied, that they were waiting on paperwork from my doctor. I called the doctors office and his secretary told me that because I need a prior authorization he cancelled the prescription. So I guess that means I don't have insomnia because it requires a prior authorization? Do you think if I get cancer and that medication requires a prior authorization that will go away too? Doctor's, you can't live with them, and you can't shoot them! They really frustrate me sometimes!
Other than feeling worse than yesterday, I hear that can happen with those shots, I am doing ok.

1/3 of all meds require prior authorization when you're on the Medicare prescription drug plan. I go through this crap all the time. My practices office has it down to a smooth routine.
Glad you're on antibiotics.
Call the drug company back and talk to the customer service person about why the prior authorization is needed. Then relay that info to your doctor. Find out exactly what they need to do and say. If they can do it then, find another doctor.
Get well, girl.
Hope the situation resolves soon ~j

Here's a clip for the Mayo Clinic. Note that anti-biotics are generally ineffective because bronchitis is usually caused by a VIRUS. I hope your doctor isn't scamming you--so many M.D.s prescribe anti-biotics for viral infections just to placate patients.
Treatments and drugs
Antibiotics don't effectively treat most cases of bronchitis because the condition usually results from a viral infection. Instead, the following are the cornerstones of acute bronchitis treatment:
Get plenty of rest.
Drink extra liquids.
Take a nonprescription cough medicine.
It's best not to suppress a cough that brings up mucus, however, because coughing helps remove irritants from your lungs and air passages. If your cough is keeping you awake at night, use just enough cough medicine so that you can rest, but not enough to suppress your cough completely. There are several kinds of over-the-counter (OTC) cough medicines. Read their labels to figure out which is most likely to relieve the type of cough you have. If your cough is preventing you from sleeping, your doctor may recommend a prescription cough suppressant.
Your doctor may prescribe an antibiotic if he or she suspects that you have a bacterial infection. If you have a chronic lung disorder or if you smoke, your doctor may also prescribe antibiotics to reduce your risk of a serious, secondary infection.
If you have asthma, your doctor may recommend an inhaler and other asthma medications to reduce inflammation and open narrowed passages in your lungs.
