Maybe I'm having an off day but I'm really frustrated...
It all started with Bath and Body Works but that's another story.
But here is the real frustration:
My daughter is in the first grade and going back to school on Tuesday. Great!! :) The thing is I'm broke because of it.
First, I have to pay 47.00 for learning materials. Then I spend 86.00 on school supplies at Walmart. You can only imagine how much stuff she needed if I spent that much on Walmart. Put that on top of 200.00 in clothes and shoes that will hopefully get her through the year. So 300 and change to go to the first grade?? Unreal!!
The story gets better, I get a letter from the school that says she will need to bring an additional 10 dollars to school during the first week for a poetry writing book. I'm all for writing but seriously poetry in the first grade and why can't she use one of her 10 notebooks?
We own our home and pay a bunch of taxes for this school and it doesn't seem to count for anything. They charge 2.50 a day for school lunch. I just can't believe how expensive it is to go to grade school.
Is anyone else frustrated about spending a small fortune to send their kid off to school?

There always a fee for this and a fee for that and if I don't happen to have it - well I must be a bad Mom... .
Taxes go up, teachers and school officials wages go up and our services go down.
I got fed up and homeschooled my son for 2 years.
I am this close (holding my arms up in the air to show everyone-LOL) to homeschooling my daughter noe too.
Honestly, it cost me LESS to homeschool than it does to use publc school because we didn't need "school clothes" and special supplies.

As far as homeschooling goes, I have thought of that but I'm afraid her education won't be maybe as good as if she were in school. I'm not a teacher unless it comes to writing and Literature but Math I totally suck. Maybe I need to do more research on home schooling to learn more about it. I'm not completely versed on it.
Thanks for the tip!
As for homeschooling, you should see if there a homeschool group in your area for information. I know that here where I live, students get education from the state virtually at home if their parents choose that route.
I read an article in here the other day on schools in Washington DC that said 56% (I think) of thier school budget is in administration costs, with the rest actually going to teaching kids and supplies. That sounded awfully high to me, but I wonder how other school systems stack up against that percentage?
Anyway, the school system needs to be reformed somehow and while what my family brings in looks good on paper, they forget to figure in mortgages and bills when calculating who should get a school cost waiver and a school lunch waiver. That is even more frustrating. Thanks for your comment! :)
