My Incredible Grandson and His Math Award

My middle grandson is 7 years old and he is one incredible kid!  He was diagnosed with ADHD when he was in Kindergarten and he has had to overcome some pretty difficult odds to be able to succeed in school.  With ADHD, it is very difficult for my grandson to sit still and concentrate or even pay attention.  He isn't being difficult or a troublesome kid on purpose, he truly can not stop himself from talking or moving almost constantly.

We were referred to the Child Guidance Clinic where he was prescribed ADHD medication.  This is a very difficult decision for a parent (or me as grandparent because I live with them) to say yes too.  ADHD meds have side effects which can include being an appetite suppressant so the doctor has to monitor him closely to be sure he doesn't lose too much weight. 

Once my grandson was on the ADHD medication, he was able to excel in school.  He was able to show how very intelligent that he is.  He learned to read and write quickly and showed a strong aptitude for math.

He is now at the end of his second grade school year and he will be going on to third grade in the fall.   All this school year, his teacher has let us know how intelligent my grandson is especially when it comes to math.

Last week, on May 14th, the school was giving awards to some of the kids and my grandson was being awarded a math award.  My daughter went with the digital camera to record the special event.

The award ended up being a quilt that was made in a Sudoku pattern by my grandson's teacher.  She made a different Sudoku pattern for the few kids who won a math award this year.

We are very proud of my grandson and his scholastic achievements and we believe that he is absolutely incredible!
