This book had been made into a movie. It focused on the plot line of the young girl who finds herself able to spell and win spelling bees although she had been a mediocre scholar up until that point.
The book has the opportunity to focus on the storylines of all four main characters - husband, wife, son and daughter.
Each in his/her own way is trying to hear the voice of God, trying to make contact with the divine (sublime).
The book is intense and disturbing in parts. There's a lack of communication - it's hard to open up when each member of the family has pulled away from the others.
Some familles which seem to be doing fine on the surface... aren't.
