author: Elizabeth Gilbert
I'd heard (and read) many rave reviews of this book. It had been on my shelf for a while, so I decided to take it with me on vacation.
I've heard that parents' responsibility is to give their children roots and wings. I guess my parents did well in the roots department - I kept the same job for decades, I've lived in the same neighborhood most of my life - I am not much of a risk taker.
Ms. Gilbert seems to have wings - she is driven to travel. She was able (actually needed to) take a year out of her life to visit three VERY different countries and fully experience them by living there for 4 months!
She traveled to Italy (eat) - basically because she loved the language and wanted to learn it better. She gained almost 25 pounds while eating there.
Then, since she'd forfeited her yoga involvement while in Italy, she went on to India, staying at the Ashram of her Yoga Guru.
Her last trip was to Indonesia - a balance of the two - indulgence and introspection.
I HIGHLY recommend the book!
