The First Year: a retirement journal - book review

This writer had worked for CBS news for 30 year and retired about 10 years ago. Since he is also a New Yorker, a Manhattanite, I could relate not only to the free time, but to some of how he spent it.

He's got some very highbrow entertainments - loves Shakespeare and loves opera. I can't say that either is an interest of mine. He and his wife both love books and reading - I can relate to that.

They have a summer home - there's a long section about the summer vacation that could be extended as there were no deadlines... freedom.

I enjoyed this book greatly - he touches on some of what I am experiencing in my first year of retirement... and some of what I can look forward to later.
