To be honest, i wasn't expecting much when I requested Practically Posh. I figured it would be another one of those books that thinks that living on a budget equates to making just a little less than $100,000 a year.
Fortunately, Practically Posh was a pleasant surprise! I was excited as soon as I received it, simply from the way the book was made. The pages are thick and sturdy, and the book has a nice heft to it. The colors are vibrant, literally leaping off of the page. It's like a magazine that can stand the test of time and doesn't have ads! Each section has a different color scheme, with great graphics bordering the pages. Helpful hints and website recomendations are scattered throughout. These are the different sections:
Nesting: Full of great tips to inexpensively decorate your home. I was thrilled that some of the things we do - like use carpet sampes for coasters, were listed here!
In the Kitchen: Has some easy recipes that are appropriate for vaious occasions. Also has a section on saving at the grocery store.
Hip Hosting: Great guideline to throwing a party without throwing all of your money out of the window!
Workin' It: Has some great advice that I would have loved to had when I first entered the job market. I think by now I've learned most of these truths, but for anyone who hasn't had a "real job" for very long, pay attention!!!
Smart Style: How to develop your own look so you don't have to spend tons of money following fashion trends.
Budget Beauty: What to splurge on, what to do yourself. A good list of make-ups to buy at the drugstore vs. at the department store for a lot more money.
Poised and Cultured: Had a lot of basic information for table manners, etc.
Get Packing: Vacation suggestions - this was one place where I didn't necessarily think she had many tips that would save me money. When we vacation we try to keep things at around $60/day for the three of us (including room), so you'd be hard pressed to beat that!
Do Good: A lot of great ideas on how to give back!
This is a great, fun book and would make an excellent gift for college grads just now truly starting out on their own. I think almost anyone could pick out some tips to help them save!
