Welcome to BiblioPhoenix, where we are doing our part to save used books from the landfills. Today, I went out and picked up some new books from Goodwill. You can see most of them in my
Half.com shop -- two textbooks (Managerial Accounting and Financial Accounting), and a bunch of hardcover and softcover books of diverse topics (Your Money or Your Life, Nutrition for Serious Athletes, Unexplained Mysteries of the 20th Century, What a Great Idea!, The Dark Side of the Light Chasers, Hell on Earth, Winning Edge, Hour of the Witch, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Henry Ford, Power of the Mountain Man, Battle of the Mountain Man, The Vampire's Assistant, Blood and Honor, Charlie Bone and the Time Twister, The 6th Target, The Reptile Room, How To Talk To A Widower, Where Does It Hurt?, On Writing the College Application Essay, and The Handmaid's Tale). Unfortunately, I can't save all the books (especially not the romance novels - there's just too many of them!), but I'm trying here and there.
So what does this have to do with BiblioPhoenix? Simple -- I'm not just selling books, I'm giving them away. That's right -- I'm giving away one of the used books I pick up every (week? month? we'll see). This week, I'm giving away
Pigs of Heaven
, a New York Times best-seller in which a six-year-old's insistence leads to saving a man's life - and tearing her family's life apart. I figure that whoever participates will probably want to save this book and read it, which is good enough for me.
So, in the tradition of all simple giveaways, this giveaway is comment-based. That's right -- if you manage to be the last person to comment on the thread for a period of 24 hours, you win the book. In the unlikely event that this lasts until the next time I post a book giveaway, whoever's the last person to comment when I post up the next 'Save This Book' wins! Either way, last comment standing gets the book shipped (via Media Mail) free of charge; the winner will be contacted by Gather mail with a request for the address they want it shipped to.
Let's see how well this works -- if it does reasonably well, I'll do more of them. And hey, if you've got some free time and an urge to look for other books, check out my store up there; I'm up to 120 books so far.

Can other people post these types of things in the group as well?
Yep, of course! Anything book-related is okay by BiblioPhoenix, but particularly anything to do with saving or passing on books.
Thank you for saving books! :)
This is just an uncommonly cool idea! I'm looking forward to reading more about it.
Not at all, go for it!
Every book should have a home!
