im just browsing to find a place for Peanut while we are gone for the wedding...
then i found a website, that really looked nice and was not to expensive, 23$ a day... yay!!!
Camp Bow Wow!!!! i had the phone in my hands ready to call, when i browse through the "camp rules"
and heaven forbid i stumple over this:
Due to input from clients across North America and experience at our Camps with various breeds, we made the decision in 2006 that certain breeds are not appropriate candidates for our open play environment at Camp Bow Wow. These breeds include American Pit Bull Terrier, an American Staffordshire Terrier, a Staffordshire Bull Terrier, or any dog displaying the majority of physical traits of any one or more of these breeds. Are they serious!!!!!!!!!
How can the discriminate my dog like this? just because he is a Pit bull does not mean, he wouldn't do well at a doggie day care...
he loves to play with other dogs!!!! i may have to call them... this is a joke.
thats almost as bad, as if i would take my dog to the vet and they would tell me, they can not help him because of his breed.
this stinks./...

Saying that is like saying my child can't go to the doctor because her friend said she can't sleep over.
I'm not a dog owner, and probably never will be. I love dogs, but I prefer my cats.
I still think that it is entirely different that health care. It isn't the same at all as going to the vet. Sorry, but that's my opinion. I pay to take the kids to the movies once in a while, and could be kicked out because my kids get unruly. That's entertainment & socialization. I don't get my own rights because I paid for the ticket. There are still rules posted that we agree to in buying the ticket.
Going to the doctor is a basic need. Socialization and entertainment is not, even for dogs.
Now, if you had signed up, paid, and gone in without them telling you your dog wasn't allowed, then you were removed because of his breed, I would agree that it wasn't right at all, because you were not made aware of the rules ahead of time.
Dogs are great creatures, but they are not people. They do not have the same inherent "rights" that the law protects humans from discrimination.
This is a business run the way the owners see fit. If you don't like it, you aren't required to use that business, and can find another that fits your own needs.
They were breed to protect, and kill.
A dog is a dog is a dog ............................
In Yakima last summer the only dogs to attack were mix breeds. untrained and unattended.
Tell Peanut it's not his fault...
but isn't it more likely that its comparable to a day care saying they won't take someone because they have a developmental disorder that causes a person to be prone to having violent outbursts? even if THAT person does not display it in general?
some breeds of dogs are more/less prone to violent behaviors. while it is unfair because not all of them are like that (I have no doubt that some pit bulls are perfect teddy bears, and cuddly to match a "family" dog breed. but don't act like most are, you know better)
That said, maybe you should look for a place that is willing to care for pit bulls. It is obvious that they are going by the breed of the dog and not looking at every dog individually, but it sounds like a blanket rule because it would be too hard for them to test the temperament of ever pit bull that someone wants to board.
On the other side, my mother-in-laws medium poodle is badly spoiled and a royal pain. She is very territorial, aggressive and is known to nip humans (children and adults). She's not appropriate for play with ANY dog in my opinion.
Unless it was Cesar Millan's group, but that's a whole other topic :)
