Summer is here and my 'break' is over. I started my summer class last night-The Second World War. It's going to be an interesting class with plenty of reading and it's my favorite subject-History! I kind of wish now that I'd taken another history class, but with all the reading assignments I'll stay pretty busy with this one :)
I've been calling and applying for jobs and I haven't had any luck. I called the school board office earlier this morning about a tutoring job they had and I was turned down because I'm not endorsed as a teacher. I was really counting on this too, and I've worked for my hometowns school system before doing tutoring. I have plenty of experience (three years) and lots of references, but it means nothing if I'm not completly endorsed as a teacher? So my quest to find a job continues...
In the meantime I'm going to be on gather more and working towards a Target giftcard next. I'm going to be using it towards getting school supplies, clothes and some other college necessities. Then I'll be going back to amazon giftcards since birthdays and christmas are coming up before we know it. A lot of my friends and family have b-days between August and December so I'll be saving up for christmas and b-days throughout the year.
I joined mypoints.com the other day and i've gotten 175 points so far. I'm still trying to figure out how to get more points as I don't do a lot of online shopping except through amazon.com. I tried doing viewpoints, but I didn't see any points appear in my account yet after writing a review on their site (does anyone when you get the points from there transferred over?) I'm hoping to get some Kohls giftcards from there for back to school shopping or to some other places. I also almost also have enough on swagbucks for $10 in amazon giftcards which will really help too.
Otherwise, I'm going to be working on my novel, catching up on reading, my cousins are coming up for a week in two short weeks, I have a house to work on and some odd jobs, I'll be selling stuff, going to flea markets and yard sales...I'll be staying pretty busy!

Does anyone have any tips on getting points on mypoints?

Without shopping online, MyPoints is slow. It adds up over time, but it is slow. They are linked to World Winner- you can play games and get points, but it's a pay site.
Sounds like a busy summer! Good luck on the job search.
Good luck on the class. Can't help ya with the MyPoints. But I am passing you a 10 for Gather.
I am glad to hear that you enjoy history. I was a history prof. at a community college for 21 years, and I feel that the old saying, "Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it." is quite true. Looking back one can tell those that did learn from history -- they were the ones who warned of the present economic crash. But most people went merrily along expecting the financial bubbles to last forever.
It sounds like you have a great summer ahead of you. Good luck with finding a job, maybe you should put up some postings on local boards at the Y etc. offering your tutoring services.
I rarely shop through mypoints, but I have found that if you go to the website daily and check out the home page, there is often small surveys that give points. It also seems that this in return gives more emails to click on.
Pricess is right. MyPoints can be slow without shopping. Be sure to check frequenty under "easy points". Sometimes they'll have surveys you can do that might give you 50 points. And sometimes there are some free things to try there for points.
Some of my favorite MyPoints merchants have increased their points needed for gift cards and that stinks. Where it used to be 3500 for a $50 card, it's increased to 3750.
MyPoints can be slow if you don't shop through it. Just be sure you have completed the profiles and complete all the surveys. Make sure you click on every email and wait at least a minute with the referred screen open (some give you points immediately, some have "timers" that range from 15 to 60 seconds -- if you don't wait the whole time, you don't get the 5 "click" points). Be sure to look at the list of their merchants. If you have something you know you want to buy, and it qualifies for free shipping (over $50, in example) from the outlet, it may be worth your while for the points to click over from MyPoints. Good luck!
No wonder sometimes I don't get the points! Thanks for tipping me off about the "timer"... I'll wait a bit longer next time and see if that fixes it.
The timer is consistent more and more accross sites as they have realized some people only click for points.
It does take a while for mypoints to accumulate points. Try doing the surveys as well.
You have your summer well planned out.
You get points for searching through them and you can also get mypoints from bzzagent and now it seems from doing frogpond stuff from the mypoints site.
Sounds like you have a very busy summer. Good luck in accomplishing all your dreams.
That's a shame about the tutoring job. Good luck with the class and job hunt.
I get points from bzzagent. Are you a member there?
I don't do mypoints, so can't help you there. I'll try to help out as much as possible to help you reach your goals, which I know isn't much, but its something. I've never had much interest in history classes partly due to the crappy teachers I had that in my opinion were very biased against a certain political party and really didn't learned much. Looking forward to hearing how this class goes and best of luck!
Just a thought, have you checked to see if they accept a "certified tutor"? Perhaps your former district can provide you with the creds to take to a community college and get a quick certificate.
I've done MyPoints since 1999. If you don't shop online (which I rarely do) it does take awhile to add up. But it's consistent and they send you gift cards very quickly when you redeem your points. Just keep clicking the ads in the emails you get. It will add up eventually.
Jodie's right. I did get my mother to sign up, though, and she gets half dozen $10 gift cards for the grandkids just for clicking through and doing the surveys she qualifies for in a year.
Wow, you are a very busy person. I hope somewhere along you way you get to rest a while. I'm don't do any of the other sites so I'm no help with how fast the other points will add up.
I have been a MyPoints member for many years and have cashed out amny, many times. My suggestion is to read every email they send you. 5 points doesn't seem like much but do add up.
I've been getting some emails and they are adding up!
I sure understand about the job situation.
hmmm, can you substitute teach in the fall? I am able to do that in many of our school systems with just the college credits I accumulated several years ago. I took the summer off from school. I will return for fall semester in August with a full course load, looks like I am eligible for a pell grant this time that will cover most everything, if not all of it. I should be done with this Associates degree soon and hopefully transfer it over to St. Mary's in Indiana. Thanks for commenting on my stuff.
Vintage Doll Collecting
I'm planning on registering in August to do it over my breaks in october and december and then in March and April of next year.
I would suggest joining Bzz Agent, as that is how to up your Mypoints quicker.
call me a war monger, but I loved taking the War series classes for History..
you're gonna be pretty busy I see......
I just look at every paid email MyPoints sends me and I also do a lot of searches through their site......that gives you points there too.and there is a polling box that comes up on your main page there that gives you other opportunities for points for answering a couple of questions too......
good luck on the job search too Rebecca......
I've never taken a soley war based history class. My previous ones have mainly been overview courses. So far I'm really enjoying the class and the professor.
Hello, again. Just stopping by to say thank you for commenting on my silly Maxine email post. Hope you don't over do it, you really sound busy.
I joined MyPoints over 12 years ago - they were one of the first online for shopping and earning gift cards - it's slow going there if you don't shop alot online, just points for reading emails and taking surveys - takes forever to earn $25 gift card, just keep at it!
MyPoints is great, but if you don't do alot of online shopping, there's not much more you can do besides clicking their ads. Or printing coupons from their site and you get points when they are redeemed...not sure how that works as I haven't done it yet.
I'm also on Mypoints
Make sure to do the searches.
Mary;s right, the searches do help add up points. To be honest, though, I haven't found any real "deals" using it for shopping ... and it isn't helpful for research.
