Aside from the very words of the bible being suspect since they were written up to four hundred years after Jesus,
this should convince you that translations alone can really change the meaning and tone of a certain passage!
"The Lord's Prayer" translated from Aramaic to Greek to Latin to English, as much of the modern bible has been!
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy Name.
Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done,
on Earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power,
and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.
Now, the same verse, translated directly from Aramaic to English.........!
O cosmic Birther of all radiance and vibration!
Soften the ground of our being and
carve out a space within us where
Your Presence can abide.
Fill us with your creativity so that we
may be empowered to bear the fruit
of your mission.
Let each of our actions bear fruit in
accordance with our desire.

And Don, you are so rght.
Maybe the Jesus story as interpreted by Mel Gibson, in the original Aramaic, in his film Passion of the Christ, got all those phoney, misguided "Christians" up in arms as it ws the literal translations and not their Bible Belt versions.
I also find direct, identical meanings of precepts of Jesus in the Bible by comparing passages to Buddhist sayings.
If I write something, or I know who did it, then credit is usually given, otherwise it's just mana from heaven!
As I have said in my book "The Plain Truth About God" everything we have concerning the Devine is only man's attempt to explain God, and is corrupted by the authors own biases, knowledge, agenda, hopes and dreams.
This is true right up to "The ten commandments" good advice...... but didn't come directly from the "Word of God" because no one has ever proved that God talks to us!
Answer that one bunky!
