Technology is rapidly changing the landscape of the publishing world. Under the old publishing model, publishers acted as the bouncers at the door who kept the bad books from reaching the bookstores. But with the advent of Print-On-Demand (POD) technology, getting your work between the pages of a book does not require the blessing of a publisher anymore. This development puts the bookstores in a bit of a lurch as there are some fantastic authors now opting to publish themselves through the magic of POD but there are also many authors of less than compelling works bypassing the quality control of the publishers. So what are the bookstores to do? Do they hire huge staffs of readers to determine what books deserve to be brought to the readers? Nope, they have opted to simply refuse to shelve any POD books, thus attaching a stigma of sorts to these books. The problem is, this course of action keeps some excellent books out of the reach of readers everywhere.
One such book is a book titled “The Resurrection Diaries” by Paul Aronson (available at http://www.amazon.com/Resurrection-Diaries-Paul-D-Aronson/dp/1435703812/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1240470434&sr=8-3 ) I purchased this book because I had read some of Paul’s writing on a writing site. If not for that site I would never have known about this fabulous book. I couldn’t put it down, and finished it in two days, which was twice as long as it took the friend who I’d passed it along to took.
The purpose of Indie Readers is to provide a place for such writers to be seen. I am asking that everyone visit IndieReaders.ning.com and perhaps even join. No promises to purchase, no high-pressure sales assault, just writers with their books for sale. If you never buy a single book that’s fine. We just hope that folks will join and stop by every now and then to see what’s available. There are special offers available now and more will surely follow. We also plan a radio call in show and distribution of free review copies from time to time. So why not stop by … join Indie Readers and set up your own reading group? You can always ask an author if he or she is willing to offer a discount for your reading group because here … the authors are available for you to talk to. It’s just going to be a good place to be if you love books.
