The people in Quebec City are celebrating their 400th birthday party on the Plains of Abraham and they have invited Paul McCartney to help them celebrate.
Well, sort of!
A small group of sovereignist artists and politicians publicly criticized McCartney's free concert, arguing his presence is overly "Canadianizing" the city's celebration.
McCartney, meanwhile, said his free show on Sunday is about friendship, not politics. "I think it's time to smoke the pipes of peace, and to just put away your hatchets," he said in the telephone interview. "I think it's a show of friendship. I'm very friendly with the French people I know."
His sovereignty critics argue he shouldn't be playing such a prominent show in Quebec City because it would be too reminiscent of the battle between his native Britain and the French in Quebec in the 1750s.
Can you believe this crap?
The French are the greatest whiners in the world and have raised the art of bitching to new heights! Here we have a group that can't accept the fact that they lost a war over two hundred and fifty years ago...... and have been sore losers ever since!
Never mind the fact that the rest of Canada has bent over backwards to accommodate them in spite of their shrill clammer for more and more rights and special privileges.
Never mind that they are treated better than just about any minority in the world or that they and the North American Indians somehow have it in their heads that they are owed "special status and accommodations" that are the envy of every other ethic group going.
Never mind that they can insult and dis-respect us at every turn while we are not allowed to say boo about or to them.
And finally, never mind that without us they would be absolutely nowhere and don't seem to realize it.
It's about time that Quebec sovergnists realize that they are an island of 5 million in a sea of over 300 million English speakers and they had better tone down the rhetoric a bit before they get kicked in the ass.
(Then there's that old story of a Frenchman and an American discussing history and world affairs when the Frenchman says to the Yank; "You Americans are so stupid! I bet you don't even know what the capital of France is!" The American replies; "I don't know what it is now, but I do know that thanks to us.......... it's NOT Berlin!")

You are obviously not Canadian or you would know that the French AND the Indians in this country are never satisfied.
The more they get..... the more they want.
The French are so ignorant that they bitch about how French is not equal in the rest of Canada while making English outright illegal in their province.
If that's not hubris, I don't know what is!
I call it bullshit.
Allan, you pompous ass, I'm married to a French Canadian man who has more integrity than any man I've ever known. I am American, of Indian decent! I know what's going on in Canada, probably know it better than you do.
Good night. Don't bother responding, I won't be back to your threads again.
English is not equal in Quebec it is relegated to second place and even illegal in many cases.
She said her son wasn't allowed into an English school even thougfh that was his native language. Forced French and suppression of other minorities and english is the norm in "La Belle Provence"
Now that you've made it clear how uncrazy you are about me, I'll point out that not only are your tags deceptive, you published to the wrong groups again. If you don't want me here, don't publish to the wrong groups and I'll never know you exist. We might both be happier.
On the education front, English was to be restricted mostly to those already in the system, their siblings, those temporarily posted in Quebec, or children whose parents had received an English elementary education in the province. (Eventually that regulation was relaxed to allow children of people educated in English in Canada access to English schools.)
he Quebec court ruling in 1999 said the province can't continue to impose restrictions on the use of languages other than French on commercial signs unless it can prove the fragility of the French language in Quebec society. But the Quebec Superior Count overturned that decision in April 2000, citing Quebec's unique geographical situation as an enclave of French speakers on an English-speaking continent.
There have been other court challenges as well – especially when it comes to education. On March 31, 2005, the Supreme Court of Canadaruled on three of them, opening the door to some changes in Quebec's language laws while preserving the province's right to protect French.
One of the cases was filed by French-speaking parents who wanted the right to enroll their children in English schools. The court ruled that legislation preventing French-speaking Quebecers from placing their children in English schools was reasonable. It said that linguistic majorities have no constitutional right to receive education in the minority language.
IT WAS THE ENGLISH WHO WOULDN'T ALLOW MY STEP SON'S ENROLLMENT, and that should have never happened.
Allan lumps all French Canadians, when they themselves have been deeply divided over the issues of language, education and sovereignty.
Now Ontario is up in arms over having to put up signs in both French and English.
Look who's whining now!
They did
If I'm right I promise I won't flog it, but I also promise that I will never let political correctness get in the way of what has to be said bunky!
