It's funny how we use different voices when talking with different people. And not only people - our pets too. I often find myself speaking in a ridiculously high, squeaky voice when I'm talking to Pete, our gorgeous little bunny rabbit. When I come home, I'll walk through the door calling, "Hi, Petey sweety!" I'll then ask him about his day and what he has been up to. Of course, Pete has yet to respond (I call him my "silent ninja"), but I'd like to think that he understands I'm happy to see him.
At this very moment, I'm sitting next to a couple who are chatting over a coffee. I assume they've only been dating for a short time, by the way she flicks her hair and assumes a doe-eyed expression. What I'm most interested in, though, is the breathy, giggly voice she uses when speaking to him. It reminds me of the way Marilyn Monroe spoke in all her movies – it was if her body and eyes said, "Take me to bed, baby," while the tone of her voice said, "I'm just an innocent little girl – please protect me."
And yet, Marilyn would not have spoken like that all the time.
I know that when I want something done, my voice will drop an octave and immediately take on a certain edge (I'd like to think that's my "authoritative" voice).
So my question is: how do you usually speak to your other half, your children, or your rabbits?

My boyfriend, I think I talk to in a very innocent tone of voice. I know that, even after two years, when I KNOW that he KNOWS that I am NOT quite as innocent as I act, I still ACT innocent in some ways. Very young and happy and breezy and hippie-ish.
With my friends, I act a little less innocent, but still kind of hippie-ish,
and with my parents,
I feel as though I try quite hard to act mature and I speak in a bit of a deeper tone...
ANd when I want something done, or I want to seem authoritative, my voice definately gets a bit deeper and seems a bit more powerful...
I liked your article.
