Today I discovered a rather interesting tidbit - Cleopatra, one of the most famous seductresses of the Ancient World, was a short, dumpy looking woman, who had a crooked nose. In fact, she looked nothing at all like the image most have of her - which is that of a young and stunning Elizabeth Taylor.
After coming across this particular fact, I was reminded, yet again, that feminine sensuality and mystique, do not necessarily go hand-in-hand with the size of a woman's thighs.
According to my research, Cleopatra won both Caesar and Mark Antony over through a combination of her charm, confidence, and her enthusiastic use of perfume (which was, apparently, a particular blend of vanilla, cinnamon and cardamon).
There is one famous story of how Cleopatra greeted Caesar on a boat that had its sails infused with perfume. So before Caesar even had a chance to spot her vessel, the winds had carried the scent of Cleopatra towards him.
What hope in hell did this mere conqueror have, against the intentions of a woman who knew what she wanted?
None whatsoever.
And what is the lesson in all of this, for every woman out there (including myself), whose only reason for looking in the mirror, is to analyse her flaws?
Well, it's that confidence - and a dash of perfume - is all a girl really needs to change the course of (her own) history.
