THE ANNIVERSARY
I remember
the band that played,
as we walked,
tentatively,
side-by-side,
both eager to learn about the other
and wondering,
Where will this all lead?
It was almost as if
that band was playing just for us –
Celebrating the connection of two souls,
who had finally met,
after waiting such a very long time.
I remember
when we walked hand-in-hand on the beach -
that windy, empty beach.
Its white sand endlessly stretching out before us.
It was almost as if
that beach,
which disappeared off into the horizon,
so clean,
pure
and welcoming,
was encouraging us
to take our steps forward,
together,
out into the the great unknown.
I remember
snuggling in front of that tiny electric heater,
giggling over nothing.
Over everything.
Over what had been
and what was to come.
It was almost as if
the gentle warmth radiating from that heater
was whispering to us
the answer
to any question
could be found in the comfort and joy
we found in one another.
I remember
the kisses,
the tears,
the sighs,
and the sorrows.
But most of all,
I remember
the beauty of our love.
Happy Anniversary, darling - here is to many, many more wonderful memories!
