War: $1,000,000,000,000--Health Care $ ?

I still believe we have a reason to be in Afghanistan, though we will either have to find a winning strategy or get out. When I think of the money wasted decimating Iraq, though, I want to weep.

Sarah if you come up with the reason tell congress and the president they have not been able to answerer that question. The mission statement keeps changing.

War is wasteful, that's all there is to it!

Amen, James. Wasteful of money, time, precious life (and I count all sides in that) and resources. Imagine how many people have died and been disabled because of those invasions into Iraq and Afghanistan. When it is clearly the case that terrorism cannot be defeated by conventional war, only aggravated. If we had put even a small portion of those funds into covert tools - ones that have proven to expose and eradicate terrorist cells - we may have captured Bin Laden and substantially hurt terrorist activity and its growth throughout the world.

Problem is, conventional war lines the pockets of so many war profiteers. Covert undercover actions require much less funding and would not make so many so obscenely rich. Oh, and so many civilian lives and infrastructure would have been saved.

The only reason is to steal more oil for UNICOL and Cheney.

So what you are saying is that not invading other countries for Oil would pay for universal health care?

The cost of the Iraq war would certainly pay for health care.

That's what pisses me off about this country! When it comes to bombing the shit out of some other country, we can always find money for that; but healthcare or any social programs to help people- oh no that's too expensive and wasteful. Sorry about my language, that's one thing that does really get to me.

This nation was not set up to be Imperalistic and make war just for the oil and control of other nations. We need to get rid of those who think that way and elect Constitutionalists.

See, you're looking at this thing all wrong. When we spend on war, the money goes to the government contractors who make things to blow up, kill, destroy, or who go out and blow things up, kill, destroy and generally get people to hate us more. This feeds into a downward spiral where we can throw more money away from people who want to use it selfishly to improve their and their family's health, happiness, and productivity into the great maw of destruction. Wealth is only "good" if the right people profit. How can those few gain all the toys unless they keep those toys rare and out of the hands of everyone else?

the whole thing makes me sick. There are times I hate this country and the health care debacle is one of those times.
