Frank Muller, a master reader of audiobooks, died on June 4, 2008 at Duke University Hospital in Durham, North Carolina (source: Frank Muller homepage at : www.frankmullerhome.com/) I was greatly saddened to learn this. All those who love writing, reading, books and literature should take note. Please check out his website and home page for more details. You might recognize his face because he was not only a fine reader but also a classically trained actor who appeared in some commercials as well as on such shows as Law and Order. But a primary love of his was one that doesn't always get its just due: audiobooks.
He read aloud to creat the audio verions of so many famous or noted writers- Stephen King, Charles Dickens and even Jack Kerouac (Muller's recording of On the Road was an Audie Award finalist). I was greatly saddened to learn of Muller's serious motorcycle accident many years ago, in 2001, and the seven long years he spent in various rehabilitation centers. He suffered a major brain injury during that accident.
Here is one great thing about Muller, something I felt every time I heard him, as did so many others: he knew the power of words and he also recognized that information was first transmitted by spoken words, long before information was put into written form. Good storytellers made a difference....and Frank Muller knew how to take a writer's words and make them powerful.
All condolences to his family, friends and fans.

R.I.P.
Frank Muller information
I would add only this. He was in a terrible auto accident in 2001. He had a serious brain injury. For 7 years, his wife and family cared for him and authors like Stephen King provided aid and raised funds for him. He may not have been well known or famous but he did what he did, read books aloud, with commitment. I think there is something to be learned from that, about giving one's all, even if it is done in relative obscurity. I was saddened to learn of his passing and hope his family has peace and healing in the days to come.
You can see his list here, very impressive: from Stephen King to Dickens
Think of this: he recorded at least 200 books for 100 authors. There are 1,000,000 copies in print and he could be reaching as many as 50,000 to 75,000 new listeners a year :)
RIP - I like knowing he was a man who gave his all.
Stephen King often chose him to read his works. So did John Grisham. Muller also read the classics of early literature as well.
