Ooooh, I has soooo much fun doing this article.
As I looked at each Icon, I was able to see and
appreciate the individuality, the spirit of expression,
the talent, and the personality that went behind each one.
We are a human race of INFINITE variety;
I cannot WAIT to do the fellas.
Fellas this should be a treat for you as well.
Ladies, I hope you enjoy seeing yourself,
how much you contrast with all the others,
AND identifying your friends in here,
as well as the Louie Armstrong tune,
for despite all its problems, it still is
***************A WONDERFUL WORLD! ***************
Special thank you to Rosa See Ya for the July Banner,
and Bhawana for the International Women's Banner

July 9: Happy Birthday, Chris!
Just like I, Chris is a simple country gal, who found her place in Alaska. After receiving her Ph.D., she moved to the East coast to satisfy a post- doctorate commitment to a mentor at Monell Labs in Philadelphia; the commitment has been satisfied, and she's headed back to her beloved Alaska. I don't want to speak FOR her, so I'll quote her, words given to incoming and students yet to graduate college in Alaska, but could apply to anyone:
"I have seen nature here in Alaska at its best -- the bears, the foxes, the birds, the voles, and of course, the moose. The experience has enriched my soul as well as my knowledge and education. . . .If you want a wealth of natural beauty and resources, come to Alaska and be prepared to deal with the cold. . . .Roll up your sleeves and prepare yourself for the experience of a lifetime!" Then finally: ". . . brace yourself, dig in, move forward, and do not be a quitter."
~~Quotes taken from "Ph.D. Reflections", University of Alaska, Fairbanks
I'll add my bit: she would scare the Hell out of us, while doing her research alone in those wildlife reserves. They weren't open to the public; she was allowed only because of her research, and permitted ONE assistant in remote areas where there were WILD, huge bears, and she was REQUIRED at all times to carry a huge shotgun for protection (from the bears). Good heavens! But she used her skills to survive, saying that using that shotgun would never happen, and laughed at my friends who thought the answer to "bear survival" was to outrun the creature. (Oooooh, no!) I'm ROFL laughing about that with her, for my friends tried to argue with her that THEY were right and she was wrong. No one can outrun a bear! Part of her Interdisciplinary Ph.D. is Wildlife Biology. See! Even now, she is laughing at my friends!

That's one of the nicest things you have said, and these tears? They're good tears, so I'm happy about them. Mais oui!

Hi donna,
Over 100k in my email box and counting!

Thank you Judi, and I wanted to drive home a point, which is
Take a look at the picture of Oprah in the "Beautiful Women Banner", and then look at my sister, Chris. SHE looks more like Oprah -- far more -- than do I. Period. The end! Yes, I agree. There are a few who see differences as a bad thing, as "them and us." I embrace them as a reminder of the infinite variety and uniqueness within each of us -- something to appreciate. How boring if we were all the same.
Thank you for the birthday wish.
Thanks.
He is one of the Icons -- himself -- of the music industry. There were a number of artists I could have chosen, but this was HIS song, and therefore the late, great Louis Armstrong was the only choice for my Gather friends.
Thanks Jim. What an honour to have seen him in person!
Thank you, Denise. I was thinking -- because I am a cat person, that -- WE NEEDED MORE CATS!!!! WHERE WERE ALL OF THE CATS????!!!
If you click on any of the images? Click on them and it shall take you to that person's homepage where you may request a connection, or read their content. This is another way to make friends and/or get to know your fellow Gatherers better
You really don't necessarily have to outrun the bear. You just have to outrun one of the people you are with getting chased by the bear.
Thanks for letting me know more about you and your compassionate soul!
Cheers and this beer is to you!
And Happy Birthday to your lovely sister
Karen
God bless you always... you are a super special woman... woohoo...
Girly Comments & Graphics
That's okay, you can put her in the sequel! ;-)
Don't you appreciate the talent, uniqueness, and beauty of the Gather women in this article? Not one, Don?
You have not one complimentary word to say about a single one of them?
Thank you for stopping by, and I hear, as well as perceive your comment.
Lisa, and
Larry -- thank you so immensely!
Lisa, I don't see you much anymore. How's your daughter, and how is Missy?
Debby, thank you, I do so LOVE to rock, especially with Jagger and the BOSSman -- as the old songs goes,
"Start me up, I'll never, never, never STOP! Make a grown man cry!"
So, let's keep rockin' together, Debby . . . PROMISE? I will if you will.
elizabeth what high praise! Thank you! I would love to learn from the very talented people in our group, and welcome invitations to learn, fully aware how busy people are, but if anyone would be willing to take time to take me on, and teach me????
I shall get back to YOU!
Moonbat
Thank you and thank you. My sister is very special to me. We -- of my sisters -- are closest in age. My other sisters are much older. Plus, when I was ill, she was instrumental in instructing my doctor on medications to relieve my suffering, and thank God that he wasn't too puffed-up to not listen to a mere Ph.D. I keep thanking her to this day for that.
Kay
Thank you, and thank you, as well! Chris is going to see the article, and (her nature) shall be humbled by all of these birthday well wishes.
What you've said -- a community of friends, and I deeply embrace that philosophy. It is so very true and it reminded me of this:
"to disagree without being disagreeable - that it's possible to compromise so long as you know those principles that can never be compromised; and that so long as we're willing to listen to each other, we can assume the best in people instead of the worst. . . .
~Senator Barack Obama~
February 10, 2007
So then, why is that so hard to do?
What is so "scary" and so "frightening" about that?
You look up at all those wonderful images in the article, and doesn't it seem like the simplest thing to do?
I believe that we oftentimes create our own "frightening" and "scary" demons from the madeup imaginations within the little grey cells in the head.
But that is another story.
Thanks, Karen.
necee,
reena,
and
Sheila
I might as well include President Kay and Karen (I know you weren't around yet, Karen) in this, too. But, since I have a grouping of you on the thread . . .
It was either late March or early April when we starting discussing the idea of the Coalition. So many things were in flux, and some of us (unfortunately) left Gather because of some of those things. Then I got sick, so forth and so on, but finally at the end of May, the group was formed -- as previously agreed -- this was never to be MY group, but a group formed by a coalition of women. Unfortunately, the way that Gather has groups formatted, it appears that there is ONE group owner, which in the case of "A Beautiful World of Articles, Photo, Videos and You, brought to you by the Gather Women's Coalition" would be misleading -- it is OUR group.
(I hope I got to everyone with administrative permissions; I need to doublecheck.)
I said all of that to say this: YOU PUT A GREAT DEAL OF EFFORT, SUPPORT, AND LOVE INTO ME AND YOU KNOW IT. It's what isn't seen; so much of it is personal, and that makes it all of the more endearing and truly a treasure. Now, how do I repay that?
If anything, I have been remiss in my portion of the deal, and I hope to do better in the future. So, thank you all ever so much. I apologize for not giving back in like. I'll try to do better.
Thank you ALL!
Thank you! I'm really pleased you like it.
Bob,
No, I have NO IDEA of whom you speak. But seriously, I don't have her url. I do think it is sweet and romantic the way you do what you do with her. Send me her url, and I'll send her an invite. As a matter of fact, if she joins the group today, I'll add her, I'll edit the article to INCLUDE her JUST FOR YOU.
After all, you are a group member; plus I LOVE passion in a man!
Carol
and
Rhetta!
Carol (lol) WHEN have you EVER been at a loss for words. TELL ME so that I might get a few words in edgewise!
And for some reason it brings to mind a silly dream I had about three weeks ago, where you threw a banquet for all the members and somehow my sister was there as well... and we were all sitting around looking like our icons (except me... I looked like me, not me on the beach at sunset) and Oprah was there. I got in a line to go meet Oprah and when I got up to her, found out that she was really only about four feet tall.
As I said, it was a very silly dream but I thought I'd share anyway. I'd forgotten all about it till I saw this article.
Warren
and
Selene
Thank you each! I do receive -- as previously mentioned -- a good deal of support from our coalition. Otherwise, I would be wasted, and ineffectual. No queens here; we're equal -- a coalition.
Ellen Thank you, as always. Please email me, and keep me updated about your condition whenever you can. You know I think of you constantly, and want to know. Hugs, prayers, and love to you.
I ROFL about the dream. I believe in the significance of dreams when certain dream them, and so, what do you think the dream meant? I think that Oprah is just about as tall as I, though. Obviously, you brought her DOWN in stature. Interesting.
Thank you for inviting me to join.
A great message, from the most beautiful sister Neeetah,
I love you
This is absolutely beautful.
One of my all time favorite songs :)
Thank you for all of the time and effort that you put into this article.
and That's rare
one more hug:)
You made an article filled with beautiful ladies that was done by a beautiful lady turn into something even more beautiful by adding my very beautiful lady!
Thank you for taking the time to find her and get her on here with the rest of the beauties! In fact thank you also for sharing all of the beauties, including the beautiful creator of the article!
by the way, I'm "Nee"!
The Doc started calling me that a long time ago, and it STUCK!
Here Jeff. Want an Alaskan grizzly?
Jeff, you are 6'5" and this thing is at least twice your height. The first time I went to Alaska I made a FOOL of myself telling Alaskans that I wanted to meet a bear and shake his hand. I was thinking of the docile-looking ones I'd seen in the zoo. They would look at my sister and laugh. She told me to stop saying such a silly thing. My city slicker friends think they can outrun THIS. Even standing beneath a stuffed one, I shook, and stopped saying I wanted to meet such a ferocious looking creature.
Hey Jeff: I'll bet I can OUTRUN YOU!
Oh, I was being VERY purposeful. Stick aroooound, Barbary; stick around! Thank you too, for joining us
Julie Let me know if you come up with any explanations for what you dreamt.
Melinda,
Looking for other suggestions for other things to do. I haven't forgotten about the ads, either. Thank you for this.
Bhawana (little Sis)
I wish I could take credit for those words. As far as I can determine, the late great Louis Armstrong wrote it, and the copyright is his. They're powerful words, aren't they? You have such magic that we all love being in your presence, Bhawana, and have helped so much with our group. Then too, you said you were concerned your pregnancy would limit your time in the group. When have you limited your time in the group? Never! You have been wonderful. Thank you sooooo much!
TerryYou are the inspiration behind the inspiration that is going to bring about more inspiration. Coalitions work, and I already love having you here and look forward to getting to know you better. Bob is a blessed man!
Naaaaaaaw! That will never do, Maria . . .
Naaaaaaaw! That will never do, Maria . . .
thanks again Nee! It is an honor to be considered your friend!!!
Seriously, this was really beautiful.
See, you would wind up getting both you and me killed.
You said,
"Wow that bear pic is outstanding. I think I could take him though....... "
While I'm certain I could outrun you, you KNOW I would not leave you out there alone fighting a bear. We would go DOWN together, Jeff.
And, for what?
I told Chris what you said, and her response was that you had better hope there was a tree nearby, and you had better be a very fast climber, that's what, OR
take your backpack (properly packed, with no food in it), and cover your head, play dead, and HOPE -- against hope -- that the bear has NO INTEREST in you, and thinks YOU ARE DEAD! If it's a mother bear with cubs, she'll probably move along then, considering you no threat to her cubs, since you've made no aggressive move toward her babies, and she won't be interested in you as a meal.
Do not try to be the hero, Jeff. Else the score?
Yogi Bear -- 1; man--->Jeff -- 0 (Epitaph: Yogi's most recent meal)
You say, "Love that Bear". Uh-huh. Well spoken, Carol. As do I, just as long as "that bear" stays where he/she is, and I am as far away from him/her as I am now.
WORD: I have developed a very healthy, life-sustaining respect for "that bear" and his/her fellow bears~~WORD, I say!
My sentiments are reciprocated, and here is part of the reason why: Somehow, someway -- and I am going to need Kay's, Bhawana's, Reena's, and Rosa's help -- I want to incorporate all of the LADIES of this group into a collage of sorts. You gave me the idea Bob. Now, how to do it, that is the question. I would prefer to learn it myself, like the "give a man a fish", as opposed to "teach a man to fish" theme. Either way, just as long as it's done -- cool.
So thank you for the inspiration!
Nancy,
I don't know why I get embarrassed when someone praises me for this, but I do. Still I humbly thank you, ever so much!
Talk about "Shared Silliness" and "Stupid Things I've Done [Two Gather Groups] somehow in trying to edit this article I lost all of the Selected Groups to View the Article.
How did THAT happen????
Imagine it! And only Earl Grey decaffeinated tea to drink. Sounds like its time for something with more PUNCH to it!
Heh, heh, heh!
Coming right up . . .
I had to stop and say
WOW!!
Again, a superb job by the QUEEN of Gather articles! A masterpiece.
I share many of the comments above - I liked Jeff's comment about "You only have to outrun one of the people you are running with..." ha, ha. he is right!
I do NOT believe for a second YOU can outrun Jeff - I went and peeked at his pics - he is big, young, and looks fast.
Now , I (Capital I) could have outrun him in my prime - but we all know that was awhile ago - maybe only 12 years ago but still a long time. I was fast - could have caught YOU hon, you know it.
Altho, we all know YOU can't run fast when the MAN chasing you is one you WANT!!
LOL
ROFL
A woman that wants is easy to catch. And WE (stupid and horny) THINK we are fast...
T
You should have NEVER left the Bay Area.
We would definitely be hangin' out together . . .
Well, it might be for the best. You would be sure to get me into trouble. I just know you would. I just know it, I just KNOW it!
Thank you for the compliment.
I say to this day that you are the wittiest, talentest, and just all-around best writers on Gather.
You and I BOTH know what is YOUR primary interest and deterrent, you . . .
you . .
HEMINGWAY, you!
I have NOT forgotten -- shall NEVER forget -- that time
I wrote what I considered to be
A MASTERPIECE of an article -- a series of articles,
and
YOU!!!
privately and so graciously (in email)
copied the entire thing and showed me line by line,
and phrase by phrase,
ALL THE ERRORS in it so that I might correct them.
I knew then that you were far beyond Cal Berkeley educated.
That's when you confessed you had done it for a living . . .
Uh . . . NO KIDDING, Tom!
But that was soooo sweet of you to take the time to do that
It shows your character, and the stuff of which you're made
---------->GOOD STUFF!<----------
Through and through, and I'm honoured to know you.
You're not on Gather much these days (Our loss),
but you returned to answer my inquiry about Brett Favre yesterday.
Thank you for that, and
THANK YOU . . . FOR EVERYTHING!!!
A Gentleman to Ladies
and
A Man's Man, too!
Also ---> We still need to hang out in the Bay Area. You have your "faverite" hangouts, and I have mine. So does Nippy the Katz! Between one of us, we should be able to turn this "motha" OUT; I'm already notorious for that. The key is to go someplace where you're unknown, and know you're NEVER go again, then you let your hair down. Otherwise, when they see you coming, they'll say,
"Uh-oh!"
Oh it'll happen; it's just a matter of . . . time. The Bay Area's big enough for the saying:
"What happens in 'Kate's Place' STAYS in 'Kate's Place'."
. . . and there's just several perfect places not far from Stanford . . .
;=)
Thank you! Again, loved your poem. Outstanding!
Thank you!
Let's see what you've been up to . . .
for all the woman are indeed of substance !!
Thank you greatly for sharing the world enhaced as friends
do feel good of-by-from you Lady Neetah !!!
The only thing missing is the audio.
Beautifully done, Dear Lady. (I can hear the music in my head.)
