NOTE: I'll be going to Mexico for a few weeks this coming weekend. There may or may not be Thought~Byte postings depending on Internet availability, which is an unknown at the moment

Have a great week and we'll be talking shortly one way or another!

It maybe harder to think, but it also brings a heightened sense of appreciation of the good. Then again we could all just not think.

"I can't" and "I won't" and "That won't work for me" and "It's so much easier to just let it go, pass it up, pretend you don't see it... hide...."

Scar tissue can help us do better, go further, but often we let it hold us back out of fear.

But you already knew that. :-)

Good comments, Tracy.

It feeds into the old "if it weren't for (fill in the word of your choice ... my mother, discrimination, my height, chance ... etc.)" syndrome.

With what Karen said, that's the issue. Not awareness but willingness to change.

As so often is the case, there are several ways to interpret this. Who left the scars? I submit that it was the parents who are largely responsible for the scars and the scarred individual then faces the challenge of rising above them.

It's also hard to avoid being wounded by life. Wounds we survive tend to leave scars. Even though it is hard, we must learn to and practice thinking anyway. It's like breaking a bad habit.

We have an old saying in the country, not the Kings English, but it applies here, keep going, and you will be alright is pretty much what it means..here it is: "Can't never did do nothing, till tried it came along."

Have a great trip and stay safe. I have a friend who lived on the Coast in Mexico, he had no problem getting out on his pc. If we are lucky, you will also be able to get out..Thanks for the great thought this am. Have fun, and don't eat the worm!!! Ellen B

Thinking's hard enough without all the extras. But since we're human, all that stuff comes with our memories, experiences, and our tender hearts. I'm certainly glad I'm able to feel and remember, and learn from the events in my life. I trust, however, that I won't let the negatives outweigh the good that I discover.

Buddhist's believe that life begins with a thought. It is why they strive to clear their minds of negative thoughts. It isn't that they don't have problems...they just understand that adding your own negative thoughts to any problem doesn't help to find a solution. It just creates more problems. It is why they work to put positive, compassionate, thoughts and idea's in their mind. That is the purpose of meditation. To be in union(yoga) with the supreme being, in this case Buddha. Have a positively grand time in Mexico.

I am going to visit my home this weekend so the scarring motif is most appropos - that was the place of the scar formation. Maybe Wolfe was dealing with his own mental scarring when he decided "You Can't Go Home Again." Home offers a respite as well as the most discerning microscope of all on your lifestyle and person. Moving to a completely different part of the US gave me a break form most of these feeling - a "fresh start" so to speak but returning home allows the old scars to emerge and you know others can see them as well.

Patrick, I appreciate the Buddhist perspective. Thanks.

I think of the purpose of meditation to clear the mind and putting positive thoughts in is an interesting concept as well.

" returning home allows the old scars to emerge and you know others can see them as well"

Donna,

1) Worrying about others seeing them is their business and a waste of your time.

2) The whole trick in therapy is to get scars to emerge so they can be addressed. Scars wilt in the sunshine and fears dissipate when examined.

So, consider a trip hope as free therapy and increased self-understanding. Be attentive and as the scars emerge consider them. I guarantee they will shrink.

Have a good trip.

Gosh John, where are the positive things in this brain? Scar tissue? Looks like they hit a their personal brick wall. Sheesh.

Funny thing about scar tissue, the more you work it, the more flexible it becomes. It only becomes rigid when you baby it and never move it or stretch it because you're afraid of the pain that might be there.

In one of my earlier lives, I read something that referred to "baggage". We all carry it. It amounts to the same thing as scar tissue. If you know it's there you can get around it but you almost have to do it consciously at times.

Rest easy

The scar is there to remind you but it doesn't hurt anymore once you let it heal
