As many of you know, on 9/13/07, Phil Frank, the cartoonist who drew these Thought~Byte pictures, passed on. He will be missed by all who knew him and enjoyed his 30 plus years of cartoon strips such as Farley and The Elderberries.
For those who haven't read these: An article I wrote saying Goodbye to Phil A Life I'd Jump at
people who have no vices generally you can be pretty sure they're going to have some pretty annoying virtues. (i am kiddin' don't come after me with the moral code police LOL)
The Apostle Paul had a "thorn in the flesh" and God would not take it away because he had to rely on God. If I know my weakness I can find someone who that as a strength and work with that person.
You are one of my weaknesses but that is a Martha Stewart "good thing" and among my many others, I do accept them and accept the reasons for them. I do find it somewhat bemusing that all of my dearest friends and beloved hubby are all chocoholics while I am not - guess I got the wrong emgrams because my mother definitely is. My dad liked a good brownie or chocolate cake once in a while but he was not into candy bars and I admit a weakness for Reese's Peanut Butter Cups and plain Hershey's Chocolate bars.
I think weaknesses are a good thing because it shows there is a chink in our armor that allows us to empathize and sympathize and relate to others - without it, we'd be a lot of "touch-me-not" automatons. I always tell people that we love each other because of our faults and weaknesses not in spite of them.
Thanks for a guilty pleasure of the mind, John Philipp.
hummm..my Dad makes a mean chocolate cake...hard to resist.. I just don't let my Dad send any home with me for my teen son..cause I KNOW who eats it.... Actually works cause my son LOVES to visit Gran and Pop..so see I don't gain the weight..my parents enjoy... my son, HE gets to eat the cake AND the love of his grands... an Mom and Dad enjoy his company so much they usually advance him his allowance..unbeknowst to me..LOL works for everybody..just cause I have a chocolate cake weakness...
I might as well own up to my weaknesses. Everyone else probably sees them anyway. Allowing myself to be seen as less than perfect takes a lot of pressure off. Pass the chocolate, please!
The Litany Against Chocolate (paraphrasing the Litany Against Fear from Dune)
I must not (eat) chocolate. Chocolate is the mind-killer. Chocolate is the little-death that brings total obliteration (and obesity!). I will face my chocolate. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the chocolate has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain (a few pounds lighter).

for posting this and all of the others. I'm going through some of your older thoughtbytes now.
Great artist he was.
Just understanding it will suffice in this case.
I'm intrigued with the concept of "more human." Hmmm.
(The cartoonist has always been the same, and he does have some different styles.)
Martha, I'm sure they will enjoy you.
Get's monotonous, doesn't it, Sheila? :)
Very true, Liz. Thanks for the phrasing.
Rest easy
... no, wait, that's something else.
Now there's an interesting statement, Atlantis. I like it.
Again, from my point of view, acknowledging the weakness is the main point here.
But, even though I wrote these, I've been proven wrong before. :)
Mostly true for women, I think, Patti, for whom chocolate approaches a religion.
(He doesn't need a wallet. He has x-ray credit.)
Nicely phrased.
Very true, Vivian.
Usually the acceptance makes the improvement a foregone conclusion.
"When does self acceptance become self-indulgence?"
I'd say, never. They are two different animals.

Excellent point, Jan. Especially as seen by yourself.
An excellent point, Donna and definitely one aspect of this Byte.
Of course, controlling is ... but that's another Byte :)
Thanks.
And I see you agree with Lionel about weaknesses being often fun.
If you fully accept the weaknesses, they should gradually dissolve.
Those that don't aren't weaknesses. They are just parts of you being given that label. Toss the labels out. Much easier that way. :)
Thanks.

I'd title it The Tao of Chocolate.
As I scifi fan I'm surprised I missed the connection.
Good job.
