What's Hot Right Now?

We're still in fall, in the fashion world (Spring starts in January), and trust me, as the temperature gets colder, the looks get even hotter!

Pretty as Nails: The tough look is in right now... at most shows this season, there was thick black around the eyes, contrasting with a pale matte style on the rest of the face. Yves Saint Laurent did it a little differently with dark lips and a light toned face and eyes. These tough makeup styles were paired with either slicked back hair, or loose messy hair- two very opposite extremes. The best look of the season for this style was a Gucci; they paired smudgy black liner and a deep grey shadow with a nude lip and messy hair. Gorgeous! Lanvin put black creme shadow near the lashline and silver on the lids for their show, and slicked back the hair.

Oh, the romance...: We've seen red lips a thousands times... but paired with brown lids? No way! Dolce and Gabbana took this look up a few notches; they paired a brown shadow with brown mascara, and then a deep red lip... classy. Donna Karan had my favourite look of the season, by pairing lighter silver-tan eye makeup with a berry stained lip; absolutely fabulous! Zac posen used a brown-black liner with a blue-red lip, that faded to a more intense red near the centre of the lip for dimension. Peter Som took the romance to the hair as well, and pulled it back in a French twist... however, it's not your classic French twist- it's roughed up quite a bit! Messy, destroyed... lovely.

24K: While so many shows were going all-out with makeup, several seemed to downplay it. Roberto Cavalli used gold powder and creme shadows on the eyes, and then kept the rest of the face clean with a light blush and nude lip. Oscar de la Renta and Alexander McQueen followed suit with gold tones in their shows. They added a coppery blush and gold and yellow shadows to their shows. Oscar de la Renta was a little flashier with gold smoky eyes that really hit the spot, and a shimmery cheekbone. Hot!

Where's Warhol?: Bottega Veneta made eyes pop with a bright lilac liner all over the base of the lid, going light on the rest of the face. Proenza Schouler was a fan of teals and cobalts all over the lids, in extreme form, but also went nude on the rest of the face. Derek Lam started with a light grey shade and layered an intense yellow over it on the lids. Then the lips reigned supreme in a dark, rich berry that was plummy and near-black! I give Proenza Schouler the best look of the season on this style.

Ice Ice Baby: The ice queen style made a comeback (as it does almost every year). Pink lips with rosy blush and icy silver and white lashes, lids, and liner made models look frozen on the runways this season. Missoni pulled the look off really well, but 6267 pulled the look off best with icy silver eyes, black lashes, and lightly berry kissed lips.

Timeless to Me: Hairspray was back in style at several of the shows this year. Alberta Ferretti had incredible vision this season, with deep plum-and-blue grey smoky eyes and loads of mascara on paled out faces. The look was paired with hair of extreme volume for a sexy 60s look. Christian Dior went for lots of bright lid colours and huge false lashes with mussed up, but very large, hair.

Mondrian Minimalist: If the bold looks of the other shows were too on fire for you, there is still hope. Several runways went minimalist this season, such as Balmain, who had brown mascara, a bronzey rose blush, and sleek, simple hair on the catwalk.

Baby Got Back: Finally hairstyles have begun to focus on the back of the model. Chloe featured undone, loose braids that looked slept-on and super casual. Missoni featured a loose ponytail with a little bump in the back; it looked like an ideal mistake. Alexander McQueen made the hair look almost like a crown, and focused on the top and back of the hair. Ralph Lauren looked to Ballet for inspiration with his sleek, partless low buns.
