To the river-dolphins (Platanista gangetica)
The river of Ganges flows around my city
like a dirty dress of a vivacious girl, a child,
playing with its building set and dirt
to build random civilizations.
The river dolphins do not know,
they are losing a battle
of survival.
Do not know.
Sometimes, loneliness touches them,
while swimming in brownish waves.
Very few of the friends remain.
And there are bad bad days.
Fate leaves them
midst the traps laid by men;
traps
bare teeth, grab them, eat them.
The corpses of those nymphs,
hang over the dock
like the dissected limbs of the girl,
playful and lively girl,
a river; with soiled dress
flowing under this sun.

Thank you for posting this to The Surreal Circus.
This was soo sad; negates a little of the peace and reverence I was trying to capture this morning: Mid-Atlantic Sunhaikus
Your writing continues to astound.
If your poem makes even a few people more conscious of what is happening, it will be a great success.
The vivacious and colorful girl who's limbs are dissected; the river corridors of our planet and their inhabitants, are vividly drawn here with your words.
I've noticed quite a meaningful stream of thoughtful responders to this series you are co-producing, and I stand and applaud your efforts and the "conversation" it's evoking.
I was born and raised in Montreal, an island city on the St. Lawrence River. During my childhood the river was almost the colour of chocolate milk (cleaner now, I understand, in part because of the work of the invasive species zebra mussels). I totally identify with the imagery of a dirty dress of a vivacious girl.
Kushal, you have a unique voice as a poet and a deft ability to take risks and approach things from a novel point of view. The first stanza totally blew me away. From there on I was in thrall.
