John- Since I am outside of the US just now, my mind immediately shot to US (United States). Did you think of this when you sketched this or was this just a sweet comment for a sweet picture? You're getting us all thinking...
and i am not talking about being joined at the hip...i love having my own space and time.....being an "US" to me means helping one another grow and working together toward whatever goals....
John, one prime example from my experience. Decades ago if a husband came to the doctor's office with his pregnant wife, he would not sit with her! After delivery he would announce that she had her baby. Since prepared childbirth, "pregnant couples" sit together, both participate in preparation, and he proudly announces that WE had OUR baby and that OUR labor went just fine!
Funny how that should be so obvious, but sometimes isn't. And how sometimes one person is living that premise so blindly that she doesn't even notice that the other person is doing no such thing...until she trips over an "I", goes flying, and lands on her head. Luckily, that hypothetical SHE landed on her feet last time, and is now embodying the "US" premise with a like-minded HE. Thanks for inspiring my reflection, John!
LIke Jullie, I saw the big US first and thought of somethiing patriotic until I read the whole thing. Once I got properly oriented, I realized just how true this is. Committment isn't easy especially when things are going wrong. I think that's where courage comes in.
FYI John (off-subject but just keeping you informed)
Finally made it to Houston and beginning my latest stint as an Assistant Project Manager. My priority duties on this project will be Scheduling, RFIs, Submittals, Meetings, Information Control, Document Control and Subcontractor Monitoring. This project will be an adventure.
It is a $32M Armed Forces Reserve Center and Experimental Military Vehicle Facility. Why will this be fun? For starters, it is a 'green' project being funded by the Dept Homeland Security (y'know the guys with the money - recession?, what recession). In addition, all doors and canopies are required to be grenade proof. Windows and glass are required to be bulletproof AND the roof is designed to withstand conventional bombing. Of course, they probably won't move in any highly secretive 'experimental' vehicles until after we're long gone, but who knows maybe I'll get my hands on a submersible, fixed-wing Pinto! I'll steal you one - may have a bunch of James Bond type enhancements :+)
That is probably about the extent of information I can share without going to prison (hee-hee). I will probably be stressed to the max, nerves frayed and bowel movements inconsistent (gee, I'm funny) but I would be lying if I were to say I weasn't looking forward to the next eightteen months. Yep, all this in just 18 months.
Ahhh Yes! If you reject the concept of "US", then you act as an individual and a relationship becomes one-sided or does not exist. I prefer being one of "Us".
Hey, you didn't give me an address to ship your stolen 'submersible, fixed-winged Pinto' to. Then you could get to go to prison and find another type of committment altogether.
I love the sketch. I believe its true. In a realationship, the only way one will work is when two come together as one. And they are always thinking of the other, in all their decisions.
I learned this one a long time ago. I've been married happily for almost eight years now. Commitment takes work, that I gladly undertake. In the end, the love, is what makes everything worthwhile. I'm with him, through sickness or health. Unfortunately, he's feeling sickly right now. I do hope that soon, he will finally feel okay.
Imagine how much better our roads and buildings would be, built with this product over the traditional methods. This is a huge opportunity, not only to drive down costs but, put family farms back to profitability. If President Obama makes Industrial Hemp available in January, we could be using our own Domestically-grown Hemp within only 14 weeks after the growing season begins.
Let's take this opportunity to correct an injustice as well as take advantage of this new technology and improve our society for future generations.

This one was far, far this easy, so I must ask:
Is this a trick question, John?
I like this -- it's true, it's pithy, and it's late, so I gotta go to bed. ;-)

Rest easy
Or, Bill, it could be phrased "being one and Us."
Robert, only you could turn Thought~Bytes into a dating service :)
I am glad you are settled in Houston and wish you the best of luck. I can now sleep knowing that you are awake.
I wouldn't call it a trick, Nee.
However, like all Bytes, this one has various facets.
I like that phrasing (not the thought, of course, but the phrasing.)
Thanks, Tracy.
Julie, a Byte may be "a sweet comment for a sweet picture" but it is never just that.
"You're getting us all thinking..."
Which, of course, is the point of all this.
That is definitely one level of this Byte, Gayle.
An excellent example of changing times, John.
Thanks.
Jan, for me it is not a question of before or after. Those "positions" can coexist.
I don't think it's "blind," Gillian.
It takes time to understand when another does view the world as I do.
Well said, Jenn and I'm assuming the words true and kept are redundant to the word "commitment."
And, the irony, Karen, is that there is room for self in this equation, just often it gets scared that there isn't.
And when you find out if it was a commitment after all, K D.
I would also like to point out that viewing US as the United States doesn't make this Byte any less true at that level.
(Oh, dear. I gave way another facet.)
Or, Greg, there are two "i"s in US.
As I said above, Bert, there is more than one "I" in US. :)
OK, Rose, I need to hear a little more on that slant.
LOL

Or, Stephanie, always thinking of both themselves and the other ...
A good way to express what "US" is all about, Haim.
Thanks.
still,,, you're right,,,

This is our opportunity to overturn this unjust law forbidding American Farmers from growing this valuable crop.
As "they" say: In for a penny, in for a pound.
Thanks;)
They do say that, Lance.
In that case, your choice is clear.
