While pausing temporarily between novels, my husband and I found that time lay upon our upturned palms like a slug, staring at us blankly in the face. The Editor of course works, as do I in taking care of our children, but there is evening downtime; in this time we normally write. Being impartial to television, we have delved into the swirling, unpredictable world of freelance writing. Short fiction stories seem to be in demand, as well as ‘filler’ poems, humorous blogs and commentary-type articles on various subjects.
Indeed, previous to this last month I had no idea such a market existed; we have found the seekers of said pieces rather kindly, compared to the average online-advertising-short-term employer. Magazines seem to like our historical fiction stories a few preferred romances as well as my husband’s sword-wielding adventure serials. Hopefully, there will be enough of this type of work to not only occupy us but also to make a bit o’ coin in the process.
Cheers,
Meredith Greene
